Question regarding road junctions and cross sections

Unread postby SAR704 » Wed Sep 11, 2013 11:42 am

I've noticed that many of the default routes don't make that much use of road junctions. Instead, the junctions are formed by a slight overlap at the end of a road section piece, with another. Just wondering, is this implying that creating working junctions in RW is unnecessarily arduous and awkward? I'm not trying to have a shot at the developers. I just don't know the true answer to this question, as it's an area in RW that I'm new to.

In both the road section, and the traffic manager blueprints, they reference cross sections, and cross section cap files, like the track BPs do. I'm assuming that the road cross section cap file works similar to the track cap files with the way it renders junctions? There is also a cross section cap entry with the traffic manager blueprint. Is this also necessary for a properly rendered junction?

Road intersections are network assets, and as such are subject to the same foibles as turntables - easy to set down, but a PIA to fix later if something goes wonky. Thus, it's much easier to simply speed along setting roads that overlap. I like to use intersections where roads are close to track, but I use the overlap method elsewhere. Hard to tell the difference if done carefully.
Cheers!
