Question regarding applying water to a route.

Well, I am trying my hand a building a route. I have been learning mostly through trial an error and reading all the tutorials and tips I can find.

I started with a small route as this seemed like a prudent way to start small and work your way up. I am modeling the Thousand Island Railway, which is 4 miles long and figured by doing this I could teach myself route building. I am using the MSTS route by Paul Charland (he is aware) as my blueprint. I have created the route and imported my DEM files and decals using ReDEM and ReDECAL respectively. Was starting by blocking and some general terrain objects, but have run into something I cannot resolve. Water! This route starts by one of the great lakes (Ontario) and progress along a river. The problem is I can use the lake water asset for the large lake, but doesn't work for incline terrain for rivers. I can use generic river water (Track object) for doing the rivers, but the river flows into the lake and I cannot get the colors to match. I would love to use the lake water object for the rivers. Is there a way to use the lake water object for a incline river?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards, Gerry

It's good that the colors don't match. They shouldn't. Running water vs. settled water. Throw in some differing ground colors beneath the water at the transition point, matts of vegetation, rocks, etc. to do the transition between the river and lake

Thanks for the suggestion. We play with trying to mask the transition. In this cast the lake would not be come (Great Lake), but more like an ocean with constant waves.

You'll be surprised how well the joints can be hidden. I have some drops of a few meters on my route and you only notice it if you know where to look. Try overlapping the transitions too as that also helps hide them.
If you want to change the waters colour double click the water and you get a fly out window at the top right. Also experiment with different textures under the water to change the colour.

Can some explain to me how on adds water to a lake? I can find the river loft tools in the editor, but I can't find the water to put into my lake. Thanks!

Look in the vegetation section, towards the bottom of the list there should be something that says "Water" something. Expand the water object by pulling the corner tabs of the object.
