Markers and Terrain hates me

So, I'm trying to set up the base for my shortline route, by creating markers, DEM and Google map images to lay over the route. However I can't get DEM and Markers to show up. I've used ReDEM for the terrain and the markers I've created myself. I followed the steps for the markers outlined in RW_Tools guide, and yet, neither series or named markers are showing up. I think it's either the file or the folder system I have set up. Here is a file of the markers folder and terrain folder.

As I understand your post...you also can't see the DEM you created with ReDem...correct?
If so, make sure the tiles you generate with ReDem go into the Terrain folder of your Route. If there is no terrain folder as it is a new Route then create one and add the tiles.

The route marker files appear to look okay and are in your Assets folder...unless you have a problem with them or they are corrupted. Did you use your csv for the dscv conversion.
Have you ticked the Route Marker radio button in World Editor??
As far as decals go...I've never played with them and not sure how they are set up....sorry!

Have you tried exiting and restarting the program? This is needed if it's your initial markers.

I am also having this problem. Set up the same way, my terrain looks more like the ones qrfan showed though but yeah nothing is showing up. So shortliner if you got yours fixed how'd you do it?

I was toying around with the ReDEM files last night (didn't get a chance to do it now, real life stuff), and I noticed that the ReDEM files need to be in .bin files, and all I have are .xml files. Was I suppose to get .xmls? If I was, then what am I suppose to do with them?

When you use the create Route Tiles in ReDem it should create .bin files to a directory you select...usually a temp directory of your choosing.
When you first install ReDem it asks you to select where you have your RialWorks folder as it needs the serz.exe to convert these .xml files to .bin files. If you have moved your RailWorks folder location since then you can use the options tab of ReDem to re-point it to the new serz.exe location.
I have a link on my desktop to my serz.exe where I drag and drop modified .xml files into when doing quick changes.....this action creates the new .bin file required by my changes to work in RailWorks. Depending how many .xml files you have...you could use this option to convert your Route tiles. I suggest you get your ReDem working correctly as you may need it down the track to add more tiles....besides, you paid for something that should work the way it was programmed.

Thanks, I'll have to redo the ReDEM process, and hopefully when I redo it, I'll get the BIN files.

EDIT: Ok so I made sure that ReDEM knew where the Serez.exe file was, and I redid the tiles, but all I'm still getting is .xml files, no .BIN files.

Hmmm!!...maybe you have an issue with your ReDem install or at the slightest guess, maybe your serz.exe is corrupted.
May pay to visit the ReDem site and ask Jim.

Edit: Okay, I see you have done that...see what gives!!

Yea I've e-mailed Jim and left him a PM on his forum, hopefully he'll get back to me. I really would like to get started on this route, from what I've heard about it, it's suppose to be a really rough route to drive on, which should make it interesting. :)

Well I got the terrian to finally work, thanks to an e-mail from Jim. Now to move onto my markers, which I created with spreadsheet because the only information I had on the route was given to me by Abandoned Rails, and it was a series of cords. The cords are in .csv format, but I'm wondering if they should be in .dcsv format.

Also, how big is a tile in RW? I'm trying to get a mile in any direction of the route, I think that'll give me enough room to create a realistic looking route.

Unless it's a big secret...it would be nice for other folks to know how this issue was fixed in case they encounter the same problem.

Go to Settings and make sure Compressed Tiles is checked. That'll give you your bin files.

Thanks..I am sure others will appreciate it also. This option should have been set as default...hmmm interesting!!

You will have to create the .dcsv file from your .csv file using RW_Tools or the Blueprint option in RailWorks. You should end up with a .bin, .dcsv and .xml file when using the RailWorks option.

A tile is approx 1024 meters = .636 miles. When you created your terrain from ReDem by selecting the number of range tiles ( step 3 ) this will give you the number of tiles from your marker point......Selecting 1 will give you an additional 1 tile to the east, west, north and south of the tile that contains the marker.

I'm sure it was, it's just that I like to mess with a new product once I get it. !*roll-laugh*! So this was probably more due to my own meddling than the product itself.

Anyways, thanks for the help. I'll try to get started on the markers tonight.
