Modular Route Building???

I'm seeing a lot of scenarios being created in multiple parts for routes like Marias Pass and Donner Pass and I got to thinking would it be conceivable to create a very large route the same way.

Some background first. I live in Southern California and have often thought about having the entire area from Santa Barbara to Palm Springs and from Lancaster to San Diego available to drive on. Besides the two majors, Union Pacific and BNSF, we have the Amtrak Southwest Chief, Amtrak California Surfliner, Los Angeles Metrolink and the San Diego Coaster, all of which offer unending possibilities.

Now, I'm thinking that just maybe, instead of trying to create the whole works as one monster route, could it be done in modules? Module #1 could be From L.A. Union Station north to just beyond Burbank Station and south to just beyond Fullerton. This would also include all the freight tracks & yards, industrial trackage and Metrolink lines through the San Gabriel Valley to Pomona. Module #2 could be from just before Fullerton on down to San Diego. Module #3 could be from Just before the Burbank Station on out to Santa Barbara and north through Santa Clarita up to Lancaster and should include Port Hueneme. Module #4 could cover from Pomona and Fullerton out to Palm Springs, and Module #5 could cover the Alameda Corridor down to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Ok, have I just committed myself to hours of ridicule and scorn or is this monster a possibility?

Unfortunately, no, mainly because the track database is one big gob represent the route. However, scenery can be done on a semi-modular basis, but takes much planning to pull off successfully. A neat idea though, as it would allow someone to "stitch" a line from LA to Chicago. :D

Marc, could it be done it each module was a complete route connected only by a combination of scenarios. I'm thinking a Metrolink run starting at Union Station and running up to Burbank on Module #1. That scenario would end there, but a second scenario, using the same consist, would then continue on module #3 and continue the run up through Sun Valley, San Fernando, Santa Clarita and then into Lancaster. Or, it could go out the old coast line stopping at Burbank Airport, Chattsworth, Semi Valley etc. There would be no actual connecting of the modules, only by multipule interconnected scenarios.

This sounds like a series of independent routes. But the scenario_state would need to cross-over similar to career mode (must complete scenario_1 to open scenario_2)

However, I don't know if scenarios can be linked that way across different routes.
