DOES IT MATTER ANYMORE?

Unread postby eyein12 » Sun Feb 24, 2013 8:19 pm

So Im looking at my assets folder for my seattle route and realize the size of my scenery assets folder is now at 2.67 gb of HD space. Ouch! My issue is that since I started baking my maps have a much larger file size now. Most of the time I find myself using 2048x2048 texture sizes in order to map my buildings. Just to get clarity in the texture. each building( few exceptions) only uses 1 map and 1 or 2 materials. in MY cpu howver the route loads fast, and when playing in the game it draws fast as well. SO theres sort of no harm no foul except the fact that this route will probably be a 4gb download! Its a huge route with just about everything customized for it.

So does this matter anymore now that we have like 1 tb hard drives and faster systems?

If you want to eliminate a huge part of the community go ahead. I have a pretty nice rig and I don't have a tb hard drive.

I don't care. Quality > HDD Space. I have a 1TB drive dedicated for Railworks.

Don't forget that stuff will compress to around 25%-33% (my experience) when you zip it up for distribution. As far as HDD storage space... it's cheap. 4GB is worth about, what... $3? lol

4GB is quite alright for me.
I'll make room if I have to.
