The gravity of my imagination...

Unread postby PapaXpress » Thu Feb 14, 2013 6:33 pm

Is it my imagination, or is gravity playing more of a roll now? I stopped my consist on an incline, and forgot to set my brakes.... I started to roll backwards.

Something has changed in physics. Definately.

We sort of showed RSC the light for physics. Expect changes over time, but I can't guarantee what or when.

The train isn't moving backward - it's the terrain that's moving forward! *!lol!*
Cheers!

That's something I've always wondered. Is the train moving or is the terrain moving.

I read somewhere a while ago that your train is actually standing still in the game and the scenery is what is moving. Not sure how that works in view modes 3 and 4...

In the real world, it apparently doesn't take much to get steel rails rolling. One of my co-workers used to work for Trinity Rail, and said it was second nature to them to put chocks under the rail cars they were constructing. If not, even on what looked to be a shop floor, you would get what was called "creeping death". The cars would start moving via gravity whatever way the floor sloped and you would never hear them coming.

If the earth is spinning on it's axis at 1000mph at the equator, and you dropped a wagon onto some tracks that run in the direction of the earths rotation from say a helicopter that is hovering at 0mph, would the wagon suddenly appear to zoom away in one direction?

No, it would drop straight down.

No. When you hover in a helicopter, does he earth still move the other way? Maybe if you were in reverse thrust, you would be catching up to the earth's spin.

I don't know about that, but I know that if you drop an N-Scale Micro-Trains coupler from the top of your layout bench, taking into account the size and scaling the speed of it's fall proportionately, the part reaches the speed of light and jumps into hyperspace before it hits the floor. A couple of seconds later, some guy in Argentina is wondering why a small plastic train coupler just appeared in his mashed potatos, and you are crawling about the floor wondering where the @&$%! that part just went to.

So Railworks IS pretty realistic then.
