It's Up to You!

Unread postby jonmorrie » Thu Jan 24, 2013 7:42 pm

So I'm pretty new to the whole RW thing, but I've been religiously reading about route-creation and watching videos, etc. So would you rather see the CSX Miami Sub, or the FEC Railroad? No matter what, I'd do it from Miami-Palm Beach (approximately 65-75 miles). The only thing I'd be concerned with if I were to do the FEC is the fact that I have not seen many RW assets involving FEC. But I'm sure a good route would encourage some of ya *!greengrin!*

By the way, I have an ambitious personality, but I don't wanna give up on this one. It's my personal goal *!lol!*

Miami sounds like a good choice!

We could arrange some of those assets I bet if the route was there.

Just a little bit of advice, to prevent huge disappointment:

Don't start straight away with your big project.

Start with a small throw-away route project, which will get you acquainted with the tools, problems, pitfalls and oddities of the route-making process. All kinds of good, bad and amusing things will happen to you during that project: the RW world editor will mangle your route, your track will disappear, RW will crash, you will make bad design choices, your backups will fail. But you won't care because it's throw-away work, you have not invested hundreds of hours, and you're learning.

After you go through that, then you should start your big project and it will seem easy.

I appreciate that, thank you. I was a bit concerned with that, but I don't see myself ever getting sick of this. So I agree, I'll probably start off with a throw-away project. However, it'll probably be a possible small section of the route. I was thinking I make the Hialeah Yard on the CSX Miami and maybe 2 or 3 miles of mainline as a starter project to acquaint myself with the editor and what not. I even figured out how to use RWDecals :D Step 1! But again, I appreciate everyone's support and advice. Reading through these forums for a few months now made me realize what a great and special community this is, and how much I'd love to contribute to it.

The CSX Miami sub would also have the added bonus of being able to run Tri Rail scenarios. That's the South Florida passenger commuter service for those not familiar with the area.
One of the main challenges designing the CSX Miami sub route would be the layout of I-95 and its dozens of complex overpasses. Almost the entire route runs parallel to I-95.
I vote for the CSX if you're feeling that ambitious! !!*ok*!!

I really want to, it's just hard to find route information. I live in Boynton Beach, which is 10 miles south of Palm Beach, and I really don't venture out to Miami. I really have no idea where the route starts or at least where I would start. For now, it would be a short term project with me figuring out the yard and maybe a few miles of mainline.

And I would LOVE to see some Tri-Rail. I just don't think there are any Bombardier Bi-Levels out there *!rolleyes!*

Alright, well I'm gonna hold off on this for a while. I probably won't start until I get my next break from school (late March). I only have time to drive trains now *!lol!*
