Markers and other newbie stuff

Unread postby Shaa » Tue Jan 22, 2013 7:57 pm

Ok so I'm attempting my first route just to learn how things work and get some practice. Followed the directions in the build guide by imnew. Using rwtools to set it up and redem for my terrain. So now is where my issues come up and googling for help led me to answers that just don't work even tho they do for others.

1. Markers - so I set up a markers in Google Earth ver 6.1( I guess that's the one we need to use). Then exported said markers as a .kml file which was then converted to a .csv file so I could grab my terrain for Redem (which worked mostly). Next converted said .csv file to a .bin and .dcsv file and added them to my route marker directory. And for good measure I added them to the marker directory in my source and assets and also in the kuju ones. When this didn't work I went ahead and converted the .kml file directly to the .bin and .dcsv file's. Ok at first I didn't know how to turn them on so after watching the rwdecal tutorial on how to place decals I turned on what needed to be on (I think) Lower left box the circle thing and using the F6 I could see my starting point for the free roam load up but no other markers. Also hit the circle on the compass up top and no markers are listed in the pop out box in upper right. So I did some decals and after adding my assets (this took a bit to figure out) I see the decals are ready to be placed but again no markers are showing up. I'm probably missing something stupidly easy but can't find anyone else having as much trouble as I am **!!bang!!**

2. Terrain - ok so I have a few gaps in my terrain. When creating I told it to do only full tiles and no partials....I have two dem's it's grabbing from so have to build tiles twice. Should I have had it build the partial tiles? I did notice when adding up the tile's created they didn't add up to the total required for the area.

Any help you guys can give would be appreciated.

Make sure you ticked the "Create Markers" field in RWDecal. And try Microdem to merge your DEM's in a single big .bil. It's available here: http://www.usna.edu/Users/oceano/pguth/ ... emdown.htm Once you installed it, just click on "Open/Open and merge DEMs" and then save as "bil".

Thanks. I already have Microdem so will try joining the two using that.

As for the markers rwdecal created the markers at same time as the decals and put them in my Assets/Shaa99/Mankato/RouteMarkers/Decals Directory. I double checked the time stamp and they are the same as the decal files. My problem is the editor just plain refuses to display any markers. I can pull up the decals themselves so I know it's accessing my Assets directory.

Small update. Redid the terrain by combining the bils. Worked great and no more mystery trenches...Thanks!

Also for some really odd reason my rwdecal markers decided to show up. The other ones still don't work but at least these ones do. If they stay at least I can play around and try to figure out the editor now.
