Quick reply... use a tunnel hole decal to make the part of the hill where the portal is transparent. You'll find it in the editor.

There are a couple of videos here that you might find useful.

The decals can be very fiddly to select once they're over the tunnel mouth and often the only way to do this is from inside the tunnel.
