Discussion about RailWorks route design.

roads

Unread postby 5292nate » Mon Nov 19, 2012 11:07 am

I would like to replace all the default roads in Cajon Pass, with Scale road. How would I go about following the real world road network in the game? Also how do I get the road to lay even with the terrain?

Thaks

To follow the real world road network you could use ReDem and Google Earth to either create markers for main highways or for more detail use decals (satellite photos that you plonk down on the landscape in their real position). To get the road to follow terrain you could use the snap to terrain tool in editor, but I recommend doing it manually by gradually changing the grade to match terrain as you go. If you want traffic to work. If you lay road from a point where you want traffic to generate from in one direction you will eliminate unecessary nodes which break up traffic. What you want to do is a big task just for roading, but if you are serious about it PM and I'll let you know the details ie. what height to use in offset so the car tyres sit perfectly on the road surface etc...

Ah yeah. RW_decal. LOL. It's been about 6 months. Still looking at things on my route and thinking 'How on earth did I do that?'. It's slowly coming back to me.
