Ideas: 3 Track Mainline

Unread postby Noel » Mon Nov 12, 2012 1:26 pm

How's it going guys?
I am in a dilemma on what to do with my route, the A&BR. I have a 3 track mainline that is completely straight.
I was just wandering if anyone had some ideas of what to do with it. I do have a few ideas:

1. Make it run through a forest. (boring)
2. Put in a junction onto a branchline.(okay)
3. Make a rail yard on both sides.(seems cool)

I don't know what to do. If you have any ideas of your own, post them here. I would love to hear some ideas from you guys. !!*ok*!!
Thanks,
Noel.

4. All the above.

What is your vision for this? Steam, Diesel? Freight, Passenger?

Hey Papa.
I was visioning this for diesel freight and passenger trains. And thanks. You gave me a vision on what this will be like. When i get it finished, I will get some screens up.
Thanks,
Noel. !*salute*!

Yeah, dude, this sounds great. I love a mix with passenger and freight. Throw in some shunting and I'll be in heaven. I like both modern and old diesel, and I love steam. looking forward to seeing some screenshots of the route! !!*ok*!!

Perhaps you should run it through a city.

How long is it? The problem with double or triple track is that the emphasis on safe single line operation is eliminated, which accounts for a fair portion of the task operating a train on single track routes. Therefore, you are looking for another way to entertain the end users. Perhaps add some industrial sidings, or suburban stations? Is the gradient level throughout? If not, that could also add another challenge. If it's in the steam era, maybe add some points where you can attach helpers to haul heavy loads over the hills.

I might suggest adding a depot somewhere which houses the motive power that you select.

Of course, there are many ways that you can turn your scenario here into a work of art.

I have come to find that making a city is a pain in the butt. **!!bang!!** Not to many city buildings out there. !*not-ok*! I am still trying to make my city on my route but have only found few tall city-like buildings. It's a good idea tho.

I just re-released my older buildings back to the website after doing some editing, there are about six large skyscrapers in there and some other city buildings.

Also, I'll be building some more freeware skyscrapers, have one on the clipboard that I've been working on for about a month now, and then I need to try to dig up some more reference. If you have any good reference photo's I'd be more then happy to build them if they are vintage.

Hope these will help, I've been building models for about four years now and it took a while to get to the point where I have enough experience to build skyscraper models.
