I have RW3 (from Steam), RW Tools (a dozen uses left), the Rail Simulator developer docs, and various other components. Everything is in C:\Games\ and C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\. I've used RW Tools to create a developer folder and then an add on (MyTest) in that folder, and duplicate everything in Assets. (I'm not sure when Source is used.)
I need a location: 61 13 39 N 149 52 42 W in Anchorage, AK. This equates to 61.2275 and -149.878333 if I got the negative right. KML data from Google Earth seems to confirm that.
So, I need DEM data, Google Earth pins and paths, and sat images from GE or elsewhere. I have all of that. But it doesn't work with RW.
EDIT: I think I have the DEM import finally figured out, but other stuff still stumps me:
I can buy more software (RWDecal) to grab GE images. This seems to work OK based on the demo. However, I already have images I would like to use and, in some areas, I find Bing to have better images then GE, and RW Decal won't do that. It seems I should make my own decals by hand, but when I follow docs I found on UK Train Sim forums (I think), I cannot figure out how to turn an ACE image into the blueprint. I might try interrupting RWDecal to see what files it is creating in Source. My guess is that I have to create a blueprint and link the ACE to it, then export it but I still have not grasped that process
I've followed the RW Tools docs to create a direct route using the long/lat from above. But I really have to create the route in the game - the thing I created in RW Tools is the texture set in long/lat I base my route on, correct? So my template is in Source and Assets but my route is only in Assets?
Next, I create a path in GE and save it as a KML file in my RouteMarkers folder (tried Source and Assets), and created a set of pins, saving that as a KML as well. I used RW Tools to convert direct to DCSV. But then, when I go into the editor and load my route, I see nothing. I've clicked the markers, but there is nothing in the fiy out on the right side of the screen. And, yes, my developer and MyTest are selected in the filter - if I have stuff from RWDecals, I see those tiles in Misc objects.
So, in summary:
1) DEM - figured out thanks to another post.
2) What is the difference between the "direct route" I make in RW Tools and the route I make in the editor.
3) Once I have an ace file in Environment\Terrain\Decals, how do I make a tile object?
4) Why do my markers never show up?
