Castle Rock 1922

Unread postby B-24_LIBERATOR » Sun Apr 08, 2012 10:51 am

I have a bit of a hard time making landscape and laying tracks ect... so I have been editing routes I already own to be more exciting for me (aka older) I'm pretty close to finishing a few of them and wanted to see what you guys thought. This one is Castle Rock, and what it could have looked like in the Roaring 20's.

Looks really nice. And with GreatNortherners Rolling stock and Britkits Locos there's a lot of possiblities for some interesting scenarios.

I'm glad you guys like it, I would put it and my version of Cimarron up (with credit to the original designers of course) but I don't know how to find out which assets they contain (when I build a route I just turn all my assets on so I have a full range of stuff to put in *!embar*!) I make them without the intention of putting them up for download, but seeing as they interest others...

I don't believe you can redistribute Castle Rock, since it's a payware route.
Not sure about Cimarron.

jpetersj has made 1920s cars and trucks. They are available in the RWA file library.

Quote from the online manual:

The routes provided with RailWorks 2 are:
• Oxford – Paddington, a UK route set in 2006
• York – Newcastle, a UK route set in 1978
• Hagen – Siegen, a German route set in 1998
• Bath – Templecombe, a UK route set in 1955
• Barstow – San Bernardino, a US route set in 2005
• Hedborough North, a fictional UK route set in 1968
• Seebergbahn, a fictional Alpine route set in 2009
• Castle Rock Railroad, a fictional US route set in 2009
• TestTrak, a testing facility based on the Wildenrath test centre in Germany

I have TS2012 and it also came with the CRR route.

Does that allow you to modify it and redistribute it?

Can't see what the harm would be. We distribute stuff for default routes all the time to change them. This would be sort of a package deal of modifications for the route. If you could figure out what all assets you used....

Sure would be nice to have it. Looks great, and what a wonderful time period!

Now you guys are making me second guess myself! thanks a lot! *!rolleyes!* :D

I can't see any harm in redistributing a freeware route, especially since the only things in it still from the original are the tracks, landscape, and plants.

Otto has been doing it for years. If the Lord High Pooba of sim rail thinks it's ok it must be ok.

Yes but he's taking advantage of a LOOPhole in the copyright laws...

Castle Rock is not freeware, it is part of a payware called RW3.
Even if it was freeware, it would still be copyrighted.
However it is up to the copyright owner to tell you to stop if they don't like what you do.

As long as he doesn't charge anything for his route, it should be just fine.
