Tightening up Scalerail

Unread postby NDORFN » Wed Feb 08, 2012 7:03 am

I've been laying Scalerail using the SR_Default track rule and now I need a tight curve. Unfortunately, even after changing the track type to yard I still can't get a tight enough curve. Does anyone know how to edit it so that Scalerail will lay as tight as all the other tracks?

Make a copy of Assets\3DTrains\ScaleRail\RailNetwork\Trackrules\SR_Default.bin and name it anything you want (SR_TightRadii.bin).

Edit these lines to specify the minimum radii you want:

<MainLineTrackLimits>
<iTrackRulesBlueprint-sCurvatureLimits>
<MaxSpeedTolerance d:type="sUInt32">40</MaxSpeedTolerance>
<MinRadius d:type="sUInt32">483</MinRadius>
</iTrackRulesBlueprint-sCurvatureLimits>
</MainLineTrackLimits>
<YardTrackLimits>
<iTrackRulesBlueprint-sCurvatureLimits>
<MaxSpeedTolerance d:type="sUInt32">10</MaxSpeedTolerance>
<MinRadius d:type="sUInt32">111</MinRadius>
</iTrackRulesBlueprint-sCurvatureLimits>
</YardTrackLimits>
<PassengerTrackLimits>
<iTrackRulesBlueprint-sCurvatureLimits>
<MaxSpeedTolerance d:type="sUInt32">70</MaxSpeedTolerance>
<MinRadius d:type="sUInt32">1014</MinRadius>
</iTrackRulesBlueprint-sCurvatureLimits>
</PassengerTrackLimits>
<FreightTrackLimits>
<iTrackRulesBlueprint-sCurvatureLimits>
<MaxSpeedTolerance d:type="sUInt32">20</MaxSpeedTolerance>
<MinRadius d:type="sUInt32">242</MinRadius>
</iTrackRulesBlueprint-sCurvatureLimits>
</FreightTrackLimits>

Don't forget to change the display name of the track rule:

<DisplayName>
<Localisation-cUserLocalisedString>
<English d:type="cDeltaString">SR Tight Radii</English>

And then select it in the Route editor when laying track, and you can have the tight radii you want.

I'm too cheap to buy RW Tools (I'm saving for a golf cart) so I use the SERZ.exe, however when I try to use it on the SR .bin file it doesn't work right when trying to repackage the .xml into a .bin file, it works for all other .bin files.

If you don't want to use RW_Tools, here is a free solution:

Rail Simulator - RS Misc.
KRS Bin Convert Update
[ Download | View ]

Name: krsbc115.zip Size: 432,659 Date: 04-16-2008 Downloads: 914
KRS Bin Convert Update, v1 build 115. Update to the KRS Bin Convert program, including bug fixes. .dds header problem finally resolved, image info-prompt added, open file capability added, plus other enhancements, now compatible with Mike Simpson's tools. Full Install. By Bill Scott.

Search for this file at Trainsim.com.

I pair it with a free copy of Context (http://www.contexteditor.org/downloads/)

I use RW_Tools for many of its features, but prefer to edit RW files (bin, GeoPcDx, lua, etc) using the combination of KRS Bin Convert and Context (and they are free)

So is it safe to assume that I have to include the new track rule with the route when I release it?

I am not an expert on route creation, but believe that once the route is created, the track rule is no longer needed (unless the end user wants to lay more track). There should not be a problem with including the new track rule with the route (you are not including any proprietary material - like tracks or geometry files) - just not sure if it is needed or not.

I'll try packaging the route and re-installing it without the track rule and see what happens.

Thanks!! I'm quite the cheapskate, so whenever I can use free stuff I do.
EDIT: Darn, it doesn't work still... get this stupid error I don't understand, the attached picture shows using serz.exe, but I tried with the bin convert and still get the same error upon trying to convert back to .bin

I'd also like to change the switch stands, so I really want this to work.. Any ideas anyone?

Do all the editing in Wordpad instead of Notepad, if that's what your using.

There is a danger to WordPad where it may insert formatting you don't want. Why not use Notepad++? its free and does the trick nicely.

I'm using notepad currently, I'll try notepad ++ as well as wordpad, and report back in a few.

I just checked on my computer and KRS Bin Convert along with Context works just fine for editing the copy of the Scale Rail Track Rule I made (SR_Default - Copy.bin)

All works now, thanks yall. I was wanting to scream at my computer, I was getting rather mad at that stupid error lol. !**duh*!!
EDIT: I'm confused, I lowered the radius to 80 to test, converted back to .bin, then ran editor again and the track still curves the same, I tested on the default trackrule for SR, making sure to back up the original .bin before my edits. Do I need to clear the cache or something to make my changes take effect?

Clear the cache each time you change anything.
