New terrain textures, how to add?

Unread postby MontanaRails » Thu Dec 15, 2011 3:06 pm

An issue I'm running into is that the Kuju default terrain textures are not diverse enough for my route needs. I'd like to use the HSC textures, but when I update my route blueprint to point to these textures instead of Kuju, I get a SBHH error when I move around in the world editor.

Additionally, I've read about how to add textures...but at this point I'd like to swtich the default texture to the HSC textures, so I dont have to repaint over the desert shrubs the entire route.

I've made sure the HSC asset checkbox is enabled.

Wondering what I'm missing....?

EDIT: I guess I didnt search for the right keywords!!! All I had to do is scroll down the page a little. !DUH! I found the solution here, I think. I'm going to give it a try: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4063

Well, still no luck. When I add a Texturing.bin to my Environment\Terrain folder, and then point to it with the routeproperties.xml, I lose all my decals, and I get a SBHH error.

I Followed that link also and also got SBHH and the "white void" on my route, until I completely renamed the file. In this case from "Texturing" to "CRTexturing" and made the name change to my routeproperties it worked. I added all the UKTS textures and a few from HSC, and Portland Terminal.

Yep, it seems manually replacing each path and leaving the structure of the file intact works. You can then add additional textures below the default group.

However, my Google Earth decals are all gone still...cant figure out how to get them back.

I may be restating the obvious here, but I'll summarize a few of the finer points of this operation anyway:

1. the default texturing.bin file (whatever the route pointed to when it was created) must have each entry remain intact, in order
2. any additional textures may be added to the end of the file. Order does not appear important
3. path structure pointing to each texture must be exactly correct
4. make sure the routeproperties.xml file points to the edited texturing.bin file
5. make sure the edited texturing.bin file is in the correct assets\developer folder

Finally, be very wary of copy/paste operations. I had to hand enter a number of entries because SERZ would crash trying to rewrite the BIN after adding the new content in. We never found a rational/ logical reason for the crashing.
