Turn Radius for Logging Railraod

I am interested in making a logging railroad. Is there a way to get tighter turning radius? I want to be snaking in and out of canyoons.
Do i need narrow gauge track? Any suggestions would be good.

I ran into that same problem on a route I started on (and eventually gave up on). Even using the yard track rule didn't give me tight enough curves.

please review:

Please note if you make your own rule file, don't mix it with any other rule on your route. It will come back to bite you when you try to modify a section where the two rules meet.

Take a look at my Cimarron & Pacific route. A bridge is your friend, allowing you to maintain grade and maintain minimum standards with regard to tight curves.

I just got some historical info on the Cimarron & Northwestern RR, which was a logging route, 13 miles. More than fifty trestle bridges to make the route possible snaking up Ponil Canyon in New Mexico.

Hi,

To add to what has been mentioned above, if developing your own track rules isn't your thing, you can also try some ready-made track sets. Many of them come with track rules that will allow you to use much tighter curve radii than the default Barstow-SanBernadino track rules. 3DTrains ScaleRail or my GN Tracks for example come with custom track rules too.

Cheers,
Michael

Hey Michael,

How do I get your GN tracks? I was looking all over your website for it.

Hi,

You can find them at trainsim.com or even UKTrainSim. Search for the file gn-track.zip. These are just repaints of the Kuju tracks though, but they do the trick quite nicely (low polycount, good for huge yards).

I'll also upload a little update shortly, with a new trackrule including super elevation, bumps, and new track BINs for track joint sounds (from Bath Templecombe).

Edit: The attached file is the edited track rule of the GN Tracks with super elevation and bumps. Just overwrite the existing one in GreatNortherner\GNRy\RailNetwork\Trackrules. Delete the blueprint.pak in GNRy after adding this file.

Cheers,
Michael

Ok, so I used the GN Track rule. It works great, now I can snake through canyons on my logging railroad. Thank you Michael for that.
