Something Odd Has Happened

Unread postby PapaXpress » Tue Jul 05, 2011 2:24 am

I just noticed that my asset count had over quadrupled in an empty tile (450 assets). It does seem to be route related because if I revert back to two months ago it does not happen. I can rule out my terrain texturing tweaks because I didn't start that until recently and this problem has been around without me knowing for awhile.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Just a small update on this (if anyone cares)... the problem seems to be coming from my Scenarios folder. Now that I have it narrowed down to about a dozen files I will either find the cause, or simply replace it with the last known good folder.

A nod of thanks to MadMike for being a sounding board for me last night as my frustration grew while debugging this.

No Problem!

I would like folks to get 'Teamspeak 3' and Install it. I have a Teamspeak 3 game server with channel capabilities running all the time for anyone to use.

http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads and get the client for your operating system. Then for testing, connect to 24.21.95.250 and see how it works. It usually is in use in the evenings mon, tue, thurs, fri and sat. If there is interest, I'll set up channels for RW2 users.

It really works good for waht Papa and I were doing, and way less expensive than a long distance phone call.

Have you guys tried Skype? That what I use to chat with Paul Jackson over in the UK for free. It even has video chat capabilities.
You can even display your desktop to the other person. Rich Garber and I used to use it to share techniques on 3D modelling.

I use Skype daily, for work and family.

Never tried it, I'll look it up. Teamspeak is more of a coop gamer's tool, not a commo tool.

Back when I played Guild Wars which had no Voice capabilities we used Teamspeak. It did the trick, but those days are long past. I'll install the one you suggested and try it out again. Perhaps when RW2 + multi-player comes out we will need it.

Had to start using TS3 with Brink not having any in game VOIP. ETQW has a great text and VOIP in game. I use the Steam chat with friends, don't forget that one. As long as someone is on your "friends" list you can invite them to chat anytime (long as they are online) My headset/ mic cost me about $15, I just use the mic tho. Got speakers for listening. Can't stand "cans" over my ears anymore. Sweat too much.

I tend to use Mumble for gaming/group chat, seems to work better than teamspeak ( still free too ). Not terribly fond of Skype, but it's easy to use. Skype is more aimed at one-on-one chats rather than group channels like Teamspeak and so on.

Actually I use Skype for my conferencing all the time (I have a team in Shanghai, Canada, and California).

Getting back to the issue... the bug is somewhere in my Scenario.bin

Could it be that a piece of rolling stock is going nuts on me and loading a ton of extra objects?

Could be a scenario with extra scenery. Not sure if it all gets loaded when the track does ( the markers do ) whether it's displayed or not.

I've used conference call on skype too, but it's rather easier to just drop in to a room - like using IRC vs MSN.

Its the rolling stock.

When I start adding them to the route the assent counts start to climb for all tiles in the route. To confirm this I loaded up SMM Digital's NSAND and low and behold in the yard I was over 1k, and off the map it was over 800.

I don't feel so bad anymore, but means that when building the route I should have it clear of all vehicles.
