This old dummy needs some help. Probably did it basackards, but here goes.
I laid a considerable amount of tracks on a flat surface. Now I want to add some terrain binimage files.
After I paste the terrain bin image files in the route the track appears way below the terrain.
The terrain is all there and the route loads with no problem. Its just that they are at way different elevations.
Anyone have a solution to this problem

I'm not sure what you mean by terrain binimage files but it sounds as if you have terraformed your route after laying track.

As you can see the track is far below the new terrain. My problem is how do I get the track up to the new terrain level. I have tried the "T key and that does bring the track up but it also levels the terrain.
Defeats the purpose of adding the new dems.

Any solutions?

I'm afraid this is a little difficult to understand. Are you saying you laid track first and then demmed the area? That's what it looks like. What you might want to do is either, lower the track back down to current track level or try copy/pasting the track to ground level which I guess would be tatamount to starting over. I don't know that when you paste the track that it will stay above the ground. Afraid all I got are guesses.

Thats exactly what I did. I laid the track on level terrain and then tried to dem the area. Actually the track is below the demmed area. I asume that the track was layed at 0 levelation while the area I demmed was at a higher evelation. I've tried a couple of things but I think I will have to start over laying track in the demmed area. At least I learned some nuances of laying track and building yards.

Will I be able to add new demmed areas when I reach the end of the current demmed area?

Sure.

I did something similar when I first laid Ohio Rail back in late 2001. Fortunately I had only laid a small part of the route, but big enough, and then demmed the area. Same thing, track way below the surface and the best thing to do was relay the track. RS is a bit more flexible and you may not have to relay everything or hardly. You can bring the neck of the yard to the surface and then using the join tool, pull everything up from below. That should go pretty quick. To be safe you may want to delete the switches first. But leave just enough of the curve going into the frog-turnout (whatever...) so you only need to use the (shoot, can't remember the proper name offhand) auto connecting tool to complete the switch. It probably won't take long to redo what you did. Track laying is pretty fast in RS.

I did something like this, though it was on DEMed terrain. In my case, I was fiddling with the gradient tool--you know, the one that makes vertical yellow arrows in a track or other loft object and which turn red on a mouse click. What I didn't know at the time is that by adjusting the track elevation at one end of a run, it can affect everything behind it for quite a ways--not just the last segment of track you put in. You may not even notice what you did at first. The way to prevent this from happening is to set another gradient marker behind/ahead of where you are working. That way you only affect the track between the markers.

So anyway, using the gradient tool, you may be able to elevate all that yard trackage in a few moves.

Kitbashed one of my early railsim routes into a DEM template using that method, since track and scenery objects don't work and play well with each other I did first the track, then the scenery;



Whole smash underground, so I exit, delete the scenery folder so nothing is left but the trackwork.



With track you can drag a circle and select a VERY large area, if you can't see the gizmo just hold down the V key to raise it, press SHIFT to go up faster. Scenery objects actually didn't work as well as the track did, I had to copy and paste individual .bin files in and out for that, four tiles at a time. Raised the track and then the scenery 300 meters to get it near the elevation of the new route, beta available here;

Still requires some cleanup work like chasing down buried switch levers and reconnecting turntables, but it beats doing everything you've already done over again. Haven't really tried merging two different routes complete with track yet, but a brief study of the tracks.bin file shows that would probably be rather complicated.

Can't seem to get the select circle to work on the track below the terrain. Have played with the graident function and that seems to work the best. The only problem is that the entire switch is left behind and I can't select them. At least I can get the rest of the track above ground, that saves a fair amount of work though. Ever little bit helps.
