Winchester and Western Route

http://hawkinsrails.net/shortlines/ww/ww.html

This is the announcement of a new route intended when done to be a donationware route to raise some funds for RWA. This interesting and scenic short line has been on my radar for a while. Walter (Krellnut) has finished the track work for the route which runs from Winchester VA to Hagerstown MD with a branch over to Gore VA and has usual done a magnificent Job . On the next post you can see a few pictures of some of the Gore branch which has some scenery already on it. I'm looking for a volunteer or two to do some scenery work who of course will get the route for free and all of the updates as we go along. I have done this with multiple people working on different sections before so that is not a issue.
Last but not least thanks to Harry for the paint jobs on the Hopper cars owned by the railroad.
!*YAAA*!

If it will be donationware will it include custom rolling stock/assets?

The groundwork already done looks decent.

I can hardly believe this! My family has vacationed near Gore,VA many times. There is a small industry there that mines sand, I think. From there the line used to continue with a stop at Capon Springs, WV and on to Wardensville, I believe. I think that portion was serviced by a doodlebug. The purpose was partially driven by tourism from Washington to the resort at Capon Springs. The old rail bed can be seen on google earth. This is great! I am so excited!

In the lower right hand corner of this map you see the Winchester and Western line running into WV from VA.

Hey hey! My neck of the woods! Kinda... I do cross paths with the W&W on occasion as I have friends in both Winchester and Hagerstown.

Lovely to see another shortline route coming.
The Winchester & Western previously operated a former 12-1 Pullman, which considering it was ex-MofW, they had done a nice job with. The car was missing a few sections which had been converted to parlour space, but still had some of its sections, and was well appointed and renamed the CUMBERLAND CLUB. SMS acquired the car for their excursions and it is currently in their shop. I am curious if the interior will be restored as a 12-1, or at least less “ converted sleeping car without bulkheads and uppers” in appearance if it remains a parlour-sleeping car. Nice car and nice units altogether, so I am interested to see the route in Train Sim. Naturally I would love to see a 12-1 as the CUMBERLAND CLUB in Train Sim. Maybe some day....

pictures?

It was a Lot 4845 twin to our MAITLAND. One of 225 in the lot, of 4,000+ “12-1” cars.

If only someone would model a “12-1”, the most common Pullman sleeping cars ever.

I hope this helps Buzz.

Lots and lots of trees when you model a railroad that goes through the Shenandoah. Thanks for the irregular asset tool or I'd never get anywhere.
