I'm currently working on BNSF's San Bernardino Subdivision, but when I tried adding distant terrain (on a cloned version of the route), the terrain became perfectly flat and dropped down to sea level. How can I fix this?

Did you download the digital elevation .HGT files to your DEM\SRTM folder?

Its either a problem with the DEM data files, or a problem with the lat/lon location of your route.
Double check the lat/lon location of your route. Go to a landmark in your route and compare the 'in game' compass coodinates with the real world compass coordinates. Or even better, if your google overlay feature is set up and working, activate the overlay and ensure the image matches your route.
If your lat/lon is right, then the problem must be with the DEM data - wrong format - wrong folder - wrong filenames - wrong region of the world etc.

I think you also have to be within the same tile as your base Latitude/Longitude when creating the Distant Terrain, so make sure you do so.

Yes, you have to be in your ' 0,0 ' tile when you press 'Generate Distant Terrain'.
How much terrain have your imported to this point Brickrail? You have to import your terrain data first, before generating distant terrain.

Would that be the X and Y coordinates?

Actually no, what Boosted is talking about is the tile location at the bottom left of the editor UI, -000000+000000

Good news, the terrain seems to have generated without problems, though the San Gabriel mountains don't seem to show up a whole lot. The bad news is that the route origin point somehow got moved during the process to just outside of Bakersfield. How can I fix that?

You might want to look at the RouteProperties.xml and see that the coordinates are proper in the <MapProjection> section.

The route goes from Los Angeles to San Bernardino via Fullerton. I'm currently working around Los Angeles Union Station.

What file path would I need to take to find that?
