Signal stopping distance

Hi all,

So I have a situation on my route when it comes to a certain control point. The issue is I have a grade crossing that sits right in front of the signals. On the actual route usually if a train needs to stop at that signal they will stop just east of the grade crossing (to allow cars to pass).

Now I know you can put the signal marker arrow at the point you want the train to stop at (which I did), but the only thing is once the line is clear the signals will show a stop since the train is occupying the block before it hits the signals.

I was wondering if using a stopping marker would be a good idea? Is there a way to move the marker closer to the signal while allowing the trains to stop just east of the grade crossing? Any help is much appreciated.

Hi,

A stop marker should not be needed. You could simply use a destination marker, pulled out long enough so that the player can safely "hit" it when stopping, placed just before the grade crossing. Then instruct the player and AI trains to "stop at" the marker before the crossing.

I think you won't be able to fully resolve the lights issue with the signal though:

You can move the marker back towards the signal mast, to the other side of the road then. That would help with the red light not showing up too early, but AI trains will move forwards from the destination marker once their stop time has completed (the player can be instructed by pop up to wait it out without blocking the crossing).

If you want the AI to wait before the crossing, your only reliable option is I think to leave the signal marker before the crossing too. However, this can catch out players who are used to pulling up right to the signal and who don't use the HUD at this point. Easy to SPAD if the marker is placed far ahead of the signal.
