Question what signal system do most of the railworks routes use? norac? safetran? how can you tell?

Most modern signals are made by Invensys, which bought Safe-Tran, which absorbed Griswold and US&S, among others. Lincoln Industries is another player, but even though they make signals, the infrastructure that signal sits on - posts, cantievers, etc, is more likely to be Lincoln.

Signals are pretty much standardized these days, so they pretty much look the same. There is some variation though. There are round three-light signals, like on the NS coal district. NS also uses a squatty target that is almost as wide as it is high. I've a lot of the CSX replacements with four lights instead of three.

As far as what system is used, that is still widely varied, though with PTC coming online, that may require some standardization.

thank you so how about what the game uses? Trying to do in cab signals and need to make sure it matches to the routes signal system. so does DTG use safetran or norac or both?

Some routes still use Searchlight signals, but some do get replaced by more modern, Safetran/Invensys or Siemens equipment. Even Griswold, GRS, and US&S signals get replaced. As for cab signalling, I have no idea.
But for railworks signals, its mostly Safetran Vader Signals on the default routes.

Many routes do not even utilize cab signals (in real life). Depends on what route you had in mind I suppose.

On everything east of the Mississippi use NORAC. Everything West of it, use GCOR. The only exception was SP in the 90s.

For Railworks, it looks like most routes just use whatever the Creators creates. Not sure if it follows any particular signalling rule. The signal kit that I created years ago contained Pikehkr's scripts, and there were versions for various railroads, as well as NORAC and Railworks Default. As far as routes, the Horseshoe Curve route I know for sure uses cab signaling. Maybe the Northeast Corridor?

Theoretically you could put cab signals, or make the Conductor "call out" the next signal aspect in any locomotive for Railworks. There are Lua calls that will return the state of the next signal. Unfortunately with my limited knowledge of scripting i've never been able to make output to anything more than LogMate.

We are already past that part on cab signal lua calls. We just want to know if most railworks routes are using norac or safetran or something else. so we can match it in the lua.

thank you for the answers. I figured norac was on eastern side and safetran was on the western side. I needed to figure out if the user should have to change what script the loco uses or if most routes use the same signal system in which I would just be leaving one script and if doesnt work on some routes then "oh well" but we are trying to cover as much has possible. You'll see soon whats going on under the hood. i'll post in the sd60 section soon

Although pointed out above, but also to be clear - NORAC and GCOR are operating rulesets, while Safetran manufactures traffic control systems.

NORAC = Northeast Operating Rules Advisory Committee
GCOR = General Code of Operating Rules
