Traveling Around a Map

It's time for another newbe question. *!rolleyes!* What is the best (fastest) way to move around to different areas of a route? I've learn that I can type in the latitude and longitude numbers to get me from point A to point B, but I have a feeling there is a better way.

I just fly around normally, and use the shift key to boost the 'flying' speed. The higher your cameras height above ground, the faster you travel

I don't know...if you have a 100 mile route and you want to work at the far end, it could get annoying pretty quick.

Your route needs named marker files to quickly zoom from one section to another. Once created and exported to the game, you can access the list from the top lat/lon button.

If you have a good bit of track laid down or other objects that show up in the 2D map, you can put you mouse over the point you want to go (in the 2D map) and hold down the ctrl key + Left click. It will automatically enter the lat/long for the location selected and you can hit the "go button" to skip directly to that area. It is hard to tell what is what in the 2D map without track or other Items in the world though so if you are starting a fresh route, the best thing would be to follow Hacks advice and set up named markers. This can be done by getting the lat/long coordinates from something like google maps and then entering & naming them accordingly using RW_Tools.

Open RW_Tools, Select "Route Building Tools" --> Marker Files --> Set Markers From World Editor. Select the route you want to add markers to, Enter the lat/long (which you can get from either Google Maps or the world Editor with google maps overlay on) and name the marker accordingly. Then, hit Add to list and when you are done hit save markers.

Thanks. What type of file does RWTools need from Google Earth?

All I do on google maps is right click on the location and click on whats here. It'll show you lat long coordinates and I just copy those coordinates into the corresponding lat/long in the RW_Tools window in my other post.

EDITED: In Google Earth pro, You can also go to tools--> Options and change the lat/long to Decimal Degrees which will show at the bottom right of the map. I find it easier however to use google maps in a web browser because it gives me the ability to actually copy the coordinates instead of typing them one number at a time.

You really should read through all the docs in the Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\dev\Docs folder.

I did test the RWTool with adding one location. When I did this it placed 2 files in my asset folder. One .bin file and one .dcsv file. How do I get it to show up in the world editor?

For some reason the way Ryan93 showed me how to add the markers didn't work. I was however, successful in using the Google Earth pin method. I also noticed that when I imported the Google Earth file that the RWTool created a blueprint file. I must of done something wrong using the first method.

Sorry that my method did not work for you. I remember having an issue some time ago after trying to add on to the markers in my route where I had to combine all of my markers into a single .xml or .bin file (can't remember which one it was) for them to show up. I think RW_Tools created a separate file with my new markers instead of adding them to the existing markers I had initially set up. Anyhow, I'm glad you got it sorted out and I'm sorry if my information threw you off track a bit.
