New Route Blueprints

Now that I've figure how to import the terrain, I'm now moving on to the next Railworks "head scratcher". This involves route creation and blueprints. I've found many bits and pieces of information out there regarding this topic but again, lots of that info seems to be outdated. So I'll start this new topic in hopes that it brings out the latest information.

I guess my first question is- Do I need to make a blueprint for a new route?

I'm now working with the RWTool and I've been setting up templates, test routes and their folders. I'm doing this to try to understand the file structure of a route. The RWTool seems to make the blueprint for me. I looked at the Blueprint editor but have to clue on how it works at this point. I'm also not sure If I need to go through this RWTool process or just let the default route making tools with the template route be my guide. It seems either way I go I come up with the same result.

Using RW Tools is definitely the way to go when creating a prototypical route, especially with DEM terrain. The 'default' route creation process in the world editor often leads to messed up lat/long co-ordinates for your route starting point.

From the tested I've done with both methods, the starting point is spot on correct. I tested the starting location by using the Google overlay. I believe I'll stick with the RWTools way...the file setup seems to be more thorough.

Yes definitely the RW tools way is the way to do it. Then you have the entire folder structure regardless if you need it or not and you won't be using the Kuju folder structures. Stay away from the Kuju stuff except for scenery items. and old trains of course.

Thanks for the info.

I guess my biggest fear here is that I will dedicate lots of time and effort on a project only to find out down the road that I did something wrong forcing me to start over. From my past experiences, I've found out that starting over can be a real incentive killer.

Are you making a 'practice' route so to speak, or is this a major route project you are embarking on?

I'm actually not sure as of yet. I'm still trying to understand the basics of Railworks before I decide.
I did have of thought of making a small model railroad type layout, but now that I have some time on my hands I thought I might indulge myself with a actual route. What that route would be is still undetermined at this point...probably something that has to do with the Lehigh Valley.
