Track on bridge question

First off, I'm fairly new to laying out track. I've done some and learned a few things but am confused about many others.

Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a section of track that I want to put a river under. I've lowered the terrain and put in the water. I've place a bridge under the track. I want to change the style of track on the bridge to the kind that doesn't have ballast. I split the track at both ends of the bridge and deleted the existing track. I change the track style, snap the arrow to one end and extend the track to the other but I can't get it to connect to the other end. It's a fairly straight section of track so when I extend the track it snaps to perfectly straight (yellow guide) but apparently the existing track has a slight curve and I end up not connected and slightly to one side.

Is there any way to make this work? I did note and match the gradient of the existing track and have tried with the snap to track button both on and off.

You can try running the new track through the end that it won't connect to, attempting to create a junction/switch. If that does indeed create a junction, and thus a connection, then simply delete the portion of the junctiion that you don't want. Snap should be off. Hope it works.

instead of deleting the track on the bridge just select it with the select tool and then change the type in the popup on the right that comes up

Thanks for the suggestions. Gary, the tracks are almost inline so it won't make a junction. Robbit, I tried your method but since I had already split the track at both ends of the bridge it doesn't quite work. When I try and select the entire segment, I always end up with a small gap in the rails at one end. I've tried many times but can't get it to work. I tried it on a continuous piece of track and it works perfectly. I think I need to relay the track, unfortunately it has a couple of switches and a crossover.

It's frustrating but I want to do it correctly!

I know the frustration you're going through all too well. It could very well be easier to relay the entire section of track from an easier starting point. After it's connected to your existing track properly, go back and use the select tool on the bridge trackage as robbit described.

Yep, that's what I did. It went much faster this time and worked out perfectly and corrected a couple other problems too. I also used Gary's method to reconnect to my existing track down the line.

The route looks good. The atmosphere reminds me of a couple of narrow gauge MSTS routes. Feel free to post some more screenshots if you want

I'll release it if I ever finish it. This is the third time I've started it. This time I'm taking some advice given here to lay small sections of track and add scenery before moving on. Finding the right piece of scenery and what it looks like is the hardest part!
