Editor goes weird

Unread postby SAR704 » Sun Aug 30, 2015 12:40 am

I'm not sure what I did here, but I was placing an embankment loft under the track, when suddenly the arrows turned to squares and prevented raising of the loft. Then when I clicked on the exit cross at the top right of the screen, it just closed the program without saving.

What did I do to cause this? It was done unintentionally, (it could have been a hotkey) so not sure what I may have done in the normal procedure of clicking on track etc.

Seems like it. and now I've just placed a static scenery item with a bit of track to create a slope to try and get it to conform to the terrain, then deleted them, saved the route, and it crashed. Now I've lost a weeks work (due to windows backup only having a week old version of tracks in the networks folder). This program is so annoying at times. I don't remember having all these annoyances with MSTS.

So what do I do? Relay all the track, or throw the project in the bin?

I suggest buying a WD external SSD that will back up more or less continuously so that in the event of the program failing you will only lose a very small portion of your work. Also pushing the F2 key every time before you exit when making changes leads to a lot less crashes and more good saves.

Do you have nVidia drivers? You may want to go back some if this keeps happening. Chances are you are running out of "FREE" memory. WIth newer nVidia drivers there seems to be a memory leak and when free memory hits 0 you crash.

Otherwise you need to make more backs ups. I copy my route folder to a safe place everytime I start to edit. I have 2 months worth of backups of it at all times.

I usually save with the F2 key when I've done any demanding task whether it be short or long. Thanks for the advice though. I didn't expect TS to do this over such a frivolous thing. However, i have seen it crash when it's too close to the object being fiddled with.

Too late now I guess. I don't really feel like laying 40-50kms of curvy track at frequent 1in 80 intervals (up and down), so I've basically binned it.

I feel your pain SAR. To be honest, I think I subconsciously press F2 every 1-2 minutes that I'm in the editor.

The other thing I have discovered lately with my setup, is that the drive indexing must be on for some reason. I was getting crashing while in the editor until I turned on my drive indexing.
You also have to let windows manage the Virtual Memory, not put it at a fixed size.
I stumbled across those two settings making the difference for me just two months ago.
Being as PCs all have a mind of their own, your mileage with those settings may vary.
