Packaging route assets

Unread postby harmsway » Thu Nov 18, 2010 12:41 pm

When using RW Packager should I check the Asset boxes for the freeware products needed?

When creating my route I used scale rails and other freeware scenery items. My readme of course would notify the need for these assets. So I hope I express this correctly, does the route carry with it the asset information as long as the assets are included in the users setup, with no need for me to include? That I may package without any assets needed except those create by myself if any.

I think you are not allowed to distribute 3DTrains Products with your route also not as a special asset pack.
For other freeware assets you have and are free to distribute you should make a special assetpack with the RW packager.
Another option is to simply give the links to the assets in your readme. If the user then installs them they will show up in your route.

Thanks that is what I wanted to clarified. Then I would just package the route with no assets. The user would install the needed freeware on there own and the route would function.

My question was to gain understanding on the RW Packager. I had no intentions in distributing anyone else work. He he, I'm not even at the point to post my own work. It's been slow but each day I learn something new on route building.

There is a similar topic that came up on the Steam Forum, about finding all the extra assets necessary for a new route. With Payware, we drivers (I'm not a designer) expect to just download and install the whole enchilada. Free ware, I understand, it can be a lot more work, but if all the freeware assets could be in one folder, it would help dummies like me a lot. Payware assets, I can understand. Assets you use from websites that don't like you to freely distribute them, I can understand. But, please, give me 5 or 10 assets to chase down and install, and I can do it. 30 or 50 or 60 assets, no.

And, as far as freeware, to me there is no such thing. I gladly contribute to the person that created a route, a scenario, or assets. All of y'all work hard, and I appreciate all that work. !!*ok*!!
