Is there a way to create 3 way junctions in TS?

Unread postby SAR704 » Sun Jan 04, 2015 7:21 am

Just wondering, is there a specific file you can create to make 3 way junctions in this game? As in a set of points going in 3 directions? It'd be nice if you could, but I haven't seen an example of this recently, so I'm unsure if it's possible.

Hi,

you can build three-way switches using only the in-game editor. First, build a basic switch (one straight, one turnout leg) as usual. Then, place the track tool gizmo exactly on the node of the switch (the little red triangle at the root of the switch), with the arrow of the gizmo pointing towards the switch, and build the second turnout leg on the other side of the straight segment.

Please note that "straight" in this case just means the "middle" leg of the switch, doesn't actually have to be straight section of track. You can build a three-way switch with three curved pieces of track too. Also, the two turnout tracks don't have to be of the same radius.

Cheers

I'm familiar with placing track, but what i should have mentioned is that I'm getting a message saying 'saved file to dump' when I form a 3 way junctions. I'm using some track designed from scratch by myself ,but didn't think of setting up anything related to it. Now that I've realised it's possible though, it may be useful for track laying.

What do you specifically have to do to create a piece of track that will render as a way 3 way junction? There's a track creation tutorial at http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 2&t=102124 but it doesn't mention these strange junctions.

I've seen nothing referring to a file you need to create or anything in a blueprint to get these rendering. Years ago when I was fooling around with custom track, I don't remembering getting these to work. If someone can assist me/give me a quick run through, that would be much appreciated.

Michael gave you the correct answer. If you're having trouble with your own track, try it with one of RW default sections. If that works, then there might be a problem with either your model or blueprint.

Ah so basically, it's part of the track cap file? Not a separate one? Ok, well I'll have to have another look at the files then.

When the saved file to dmp message is displayed, it shows a junction without any track rendering. This is odd. I thought the track cap section accounted for 3 way junctions, not just two way. Is there a specific property you have to include in the blueprint for three way junctions?

What I'm assuming is that if the track cap for the regular junctions works, then theoretically, it should be ok for the 3 way ones? Or is this incorrect?

The cap file allows for junctions only. It doesn't care how they're laid or crossed. Misconfiguration of the model or blueprint, however, could prevent you from creating proper turnouts (3-way or otherwise).
