Changing switchstands to automatic

Unread postby railduffer » Fri Dec 12, 2014 5:02 pm

Again I'm new to route building. I have placed manual switches, and now I would like to change a few of them to automatic. Is there a way to change them while working within the route building program?
I would appreciate help.

First, set your switch preferences to automatic. Use the Split tool, find the "sweet spot" at the points, split the track, then use the Weld tool. :D

Sorry Hack, I guess I can't find the "sweet spot". I've split at the points, and several places between the points and the switch stand. The program comes up with the two back to back stop blocks, but no weld box above. The upper right menu does pop out. What is wrong?
Thanks.

What happens if you try to grab the diverging piece, and then using the Join tool, join it back?
Cheers!

The "sweet spot" Hack is referring to is the weld (red triangle) that will be near the switch-stand. Split & weld on that triangle as he suggests and everything should be fine.

If you're getting bumper-blocks after splitting and no weld-box then likely the diverging tracks are at different elevations.

Splitting the tracks in the middle of the junction & rewelding will result in a red hoop (or frame) showing impassable as the switch-junction will show as broken

Hack. It seems I loose the switch Guard rails. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, or not understanding correctly.
I don't understand why the designers don't have an edit feature. I could use it here, and could have used it laying track.
Thanks for your help. I'll keep trying.

Barnez and Hack, it works. Breaking at the triangle was the trick. Thank you both very much. The automatic boxes did not show up. I don't really care as long as the automatic works. Thanks again.
