How do you calculate miles on a RW2 Route?

I want to put the nice COA mileposts on my Mt. Hood RR, but I can't figure out a way to actually measure the miles. Is there a method to use?

Secondly, I have the loader/unloader timber dock that is supposed to match the Michael Stevens flatcars. It's generating and loading two loads side by side, which stick out past the car ends. I've uninstalled and re-installed it with no success. Anyone have any other suggestions? Once this is resolved, the Dee Sawmill will be finished.

What I have done in the past was to use the ruler and measure a mile. Then place cars and an engine to fill up the mile. Then place a marker and drive the train until the caboose is even with the first marker and place the next one by the engine. Rinse and repeat. I hope there is an easier way but I don't know about it. It would be nice if and engine had an odometer on it.

I do pretty much the same thing. I have a one mile train saved as a consist and I just keep running it until the caboose comes to the last marker, jump to the engine and place the next marker then drive another mile. Once you are set up it really is not too bad. An odometer would be quicker though. !*cheers*!

I haven't tried this and I may be all wrong, but here goes anyway. Could you put a scenario marker at your "0" milepost and set that up as a destination? If you start at the opposite end of your route, it should show the distance to your next destination. You can then place mileposts as you go toward "0". I used this technique for MSTS and used a signal instead of a scenario marker. Hope this helps.

Interesting idea, you could put a marker at the EOT and do the same. I'll try that on my other WIP (still secret!) and let you know how it works out.

I ran into one little glitch using the one mile train method; How the heck do you put a one mile train on a 1600 foot switchback? I planned ahead, and had three locos on the front and two helpers. Once it was split, the helpers couldn't push the rest of the cars up the 2.25% grade, and in fact started losing ground! !*roll-laugh*!

I finally just reedited the scenario and re-created the train above the switchback. Working along to completion now.

Thanks,
MM

Hi! I've done this successfully, but needs to be done as a "Standard" scenario with the Player engine having a Destination Marker selected. Cheers; Chuck F.

I like that method.

Finished up, using the mile of train method. It worked fine (except for the snafu at the switchback!) and I've marked it off to the end.

For some reason, the new HUD doesn't give you miles/kilometers to the nexr signal like the old one did. So, it would appear that isn't going to work any more. :(

Thanks for the hints and links!

Hiya,

The method I have used on routes is to set a train at one end of the route and a destination at the other. When playing the scenario I watch the distance to destination count down and at every mile press CTRL+E to enter the editor. I know then that right next to the engine is the location for the next Mile Marker. Once placed press D to continue driving.
