On monday Railworks 2 will come and railsimulator.com said we should make a backup of our non-default routes.
So my question is: How can I backup my route in an easy way?

I back up the whole Steam folder to an external network drive using Synctoy from Microsoft - that way you have a copy of everything.

If you just want a copy of your route, find out which folder it is in the Content folder (RW-Tools will tell you), and take a copy of that.

Couldn't I just package my wip route and then install it in rw2 and go on with my work?

Yes - you could, although you probably won't need to install it because the update will work without a problem.

You still need a back up though, unless you only have default and Steam bought items.

That's the method I usually use for backing-up my routes. Seems to work well for me, and in the few times I did reinstall a recently packaged version of my route all went well.

Though if really concerned about the forthcoming upgrade, or wanting to be extra cautious, and if you had the hard-drive space to spare, one could always back up the whole Railworks folder and sub-folders within.
