This may be a stupid question, but can anyone tell me how to convert terrain textures to dds format? There seems to be no option for this in Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro.

I believe the dds plugin from Nvidia only works with photoshop, not with elements.

However, the plugin is on Nvidia's website, search for dds plugin & follow the link to developer.nvidia.com

You can use RSBinTools. It's here in the library.

Rs bin does a good job but I Know that dds plug in works with photoshop elements, because I used to use it before I got my free CS2 full photoshop(which is a lot better because it can handle alpha channels)CS2 is old but it does everything I need to do,I think it's still free but I don't have the link anymore.

I can't find any way to convert textures to dds in RSBintool. I just want to get a custom terrain texture into the program to use instead of the default ones. Is there a tutorial that tells you how to do this from scratch? Because I seem to have forgotten most of the process

terrain textures are are somewhat complex, look at this thread first viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2545

theDDS plugins I used with PSElements 8 go in C(or the drive you use)/adobe/photoshop elements/plugins/fileformats/(put the plugin dds.8b1 here in the fileformats folder)

in my case this works(even though I have win 7 64 )but i think i had to use the 32bit plugin to get it to work

try this link if you want cs2 full photoshop(older version) free-grab the serial # given there free--this is reputable and legitimate!
