Obviously I am doing something completely wrong here. When I activate the overlay(CTRL+g)the map is where the sky should be and the blue circles are underneath. The co-ordinates are correct and I've checked everything I can think of except the Gizmo thingy I cant work out what that's supposed to do.Perhaps that's where the problem lies.I am open to suggestions.

In the lower right corner of the screen is a small pop out window that appears when you hit CNTRL G. It has some sliders on it, one is for the elevation of the map. Check to see if your is set up high.

I have no idea what gizmo your talking about. Been using the overlay for 3 months now and I don't have a gizmo. Can you get a screenshot of it?

It looks sort of like a gyroscope with 2 arrows. It comes and goes when you click the train icon and I have no idea what any of it means. If I can work out how to retrieve a screen shot I will post it!!!

When you click on, actually you have to double click it, the gizmo appears so you can move the train icon around. That's what the gizmos are for. When you place scenery objects they all have gizmos to move, spin, raise and lower them. You pretty new at all this?

I use Gadwin Print Screen: http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/ Once installed and it's running, you use the PrtScr key to take a screen shot. Then, right click on the camera icon in the Tool Tray, choose Screen Shots. When you post here, just use the attachments feature, browse to that screen shots folder, pick the shot and post it.

Ahhh now I understand the gizmo. That doesn't solve my problem but I WILL post a screen shot so you can see what's going on.

Looks to me your camera position is underground. Try going up (Ctrl+arrow up).

Click the train gizmo and press J. It will take the gizmo to surface level.

That is why I asked for a screen shot. Could not figure out why you had a gizmo for the overlay.
