Decided to treat myself to a second computer build as a home for the recently acquired 3070. Once the GPU market returns to something approaching sanity I'll spring for a mid-range GPU to put back into my Ryzen rig but for now I'm exploring how the other half lives in team blue.
I was looking around UKTrainSim the other day and came across a post from someone (name escapes me at the moment) who was experimenting with long, thin asset blocks of some suitable vegetation to make farms look a bit more realistic over just a ground texture. The poster was using the vegetation from Vulcan Productions, which I have become very fond of, and claimed that the fps hit was negligible considering how many asset blocks were needed and the density that was needed. Now, I have been using a similar technique for long lines of trees and bushes that are used as wind breaks for many of the farms in the PRB but it never occurred to me to try doing this for crops.
So, I gave it a shot and I think it looks much better than just a painted on ground texture. fps drop was barely noticeable.
