Closing in on catching up to Clio Trestle. About five more miles to go. Here are a few screen shots of my latest scenery work.

Thanks everyone at my current pace I should catch up to The Clio Trestle by the end of the month. From there i have 15 miles left to fill in the scenery. So I might have it all complete by May now. As everyone know things happen in life but it is looking good now.

I will package up the freeware assets i am using in RWP files. This way everyone won't have to try to find what they are missing. I use Dropbox to upload my assets. I will try to keep the files at a reasonable size. And I will put in some freeroam scenarios using DTG Feather River Canyon Route Rolling Stock. I need some suggestions on how I am going to make this available. I just can't just put this up here on this site in the route section without verifying that everyone has the DTG FRC Route first. I don't want to break the route up. I want this to be a complete route. So you could run the route from the start of DTG FRC route and go to the end of my extension.

If I am understanding you correctly there is no way you can put the whole route here or anywhere else. This needs to be a addon which requires the Feather River Route for it to function unless you can work something out with DTG I think. I suppose you could maybe finish the thing and then take all the original files out and make it so that we could dump the original into your addition so it would all function. That way your bin files would not work unless someone put all the original tiles in the right place. Thinking about this is making my head hurt.

Thanks Buzz I can always do it the hard way by verifying that the people have the route first by sending me a screen shot through my PM. I am just asking if there is another way. The verifying way will work it will just be a little harder on the people that want it. I allready have found out from DTG that I can make this extension and give it to people. I am trying to find an easier way. Thanks for your suggestion too hard for me though.

Yeah but you can't give away the route even if you supposedly verify that someone has it. At least not here. One of us mods can probably help you to package this thing when you get it done.

I don't see why it would be a problem. Isn't it just a more advanced version of something like my Donner Scenery mod that would require some free assets?

Or is it because my Donner mod only uses DTG assets?

His modified route won't work unless you own Feather River already. When he says include the assets, I think he means the free ones not the folders for the route itself.

I'm stumped by this.

@ Eric You are not making any mods the track or the route itself. I believe that is where the intellectual property lies.

I am only talking about freeware assets. I cannot give out the DTG assets i know this. If someone ran my route it would only work if you have the DTG FEATHER RIVER CANYON ROUTE otherwise it would not work. You will have to have bought the DTG FRC route with its assets in your assets folder. I will find the post that i put up on this section to show the response i received from DTG. So i will stick with the verifying through my PM to send this route out when it is finished.

True, but he's not asking money for it.
He's working on a cloned version like I am with my project. except for the free download items, the Feather River route and assets have to be owned by anyone downloading his route.
The Feather River part of his cloned route is just a collection of bins like mine.
IE his extension will only work if people already own the Feather River route.

The intellectual property argument could be used against the reskins... Those pain schemes are someone else's idea.

dleeboy wrote:I am going to extend DTGs Feather River Canyon Route. I will extend it from where DTG left off in Quincy and take it to Portola California. It is going to include the Williams Loop along with The Spring Garden Tunnel and the Western Pacific Railroad Museum Yard in Portola.

I am only going to use DTGs Feather River assets no other assets are going to be used. Obvious only people with DTGs Feather River Canyon route will be able to run this. This way I am keeping in DTGs guidelines and not breaking any laws. Here is a link to my PhotoBucket site to see screen shots of my progress. http://s37.photobucket.com/user/dleeboy ... 0Extention

I contacted DTG and asked if I could extend their route without breaking any laws and here was there response to me.

Hi David,

Thanks for getting in touch. Train Simulator comes with a built in editor which allows you to customise the content we release. You can even share it if you wish. i can't offer support on how to use the editor but you won't be breaking any laws at all by editing the game content.

Kind regards,
Jack

My progress from Quincy is coming along nicely. If I am lucky I should have everything in up to the Spring Garden Tunnel by March 1st.

The Williams Loop has been tested and it works great. It is close to the height of the real Williams Loop It may not be perfect. But I think I came close and it does at least make a representation of the Real one.

A little facts on the Spring Garden Tunnel it is 7,344 feet long. Somewhere along the progress of the route I will need a little help with adding Route markers to the existing Route markers that are already there for the Feather River Route. In my past of route making I have had difficulty figuring this out. Adding marker to an existing route. And also I will need someone to make some scenarios for the route. My specialty is putting down scenery.

I am only talking about the freeware assets. I cannot give out the DTG FEATHER RIVER CANYON Route assets I know this. My Feather River route extension will not work unless you have the DTG FRC route assets in your assets folder. And the only way you can have that is if you buy the route from them through Steam.

To ease everyone once I have completed my extension I will contact DTG again and verify that I can release my extension to other people. But according from what I have already received from them I will not be breaking any laws.

So to cause less trouble I will release the route through my PM message. And require screen shot verification first before I send it to any one. I will ask for a specific section of the route to verify that that person has the DTG FRC route first. It will be harder this way but doing it this way will keep with DTG rules. And as you see from the response from them I can share this route with other people.
