Well all you can really do is start from a known location. And work from there. When I was laying the track for the Feather River I found a bridge on the track chart that had a elevation right dead square in the middle of the crossing :) lucky. So I knew my altitude and location in both my decals (now google overlay) and on my DEM. I just worked it out from there. Followed the grade in the track charts and the line on my decals. And I found my DEM was shifted maybe 10 meters or so as I progressed down the line. I still might go into Microdem and shift the whole thing to get it better aligned, though it's hard to tell once the embankments have been cut in.

Thanks for the advice, I was wondering what is the elevation in TS2014? Is it in meters or feet? I'm trying to read the track chart for NS's Reading Line and I'm having trouble reading elevation...I got it from here: http://www.multimodalways.org/docs/rail ... 202009.pdf , if anyone could help me out it would be awesome, I'm beginning to get frustrated and starting to think I have bitten off more than I could chew. I really want to make this route and any experienced help is welcome.

I am in need of some serious help, I can't seem to get any of the tracks to lay precisely at the specific degree I need. Most of the route is long straight sections with some sweeping curves. if my track is off by a hair i end up going into bushes and being miles off from where I need to be. Is there any easy way of having the track follow the track on the google decal. I am really ripping my hair out. Can anyone lend a helping hand?

The Location I'm having trouble in is at Lat: 40.52443 and Long: -74.81849. It's a grade crossing right in the middle of the tangent. I figured if I got that right all the rest of the track in the route would be spot on since it all stems from the single track portions anyway. Unless you can think of a better way of doing it?

Ok I went to that area, just another section of track . Line up on the section of track before the crossing, lots of little adjustments with the "F" & "G" key. Once you get that section lined up, run it out to the next curve. Then going the other way there is a slight curve just after the crossing that will allow you to line up the next section. You'll need some time and allot of trim cuts but it will fall into place. Also you have to watch the seam shifts in google map and just do the best you can with that stuff. I think if you can keep your track within one track width your way more precise then we need to be for a simulator. We're not recreating a crime scene ya know.

Haha. never knew about the F&G keys, are they for fine tuning? I thought it was a simple thing, but I guess I still have a lot to learn. I mean this is my first route, so I'm diving into this head first but hey, I'll send pics once I get everything lined up and what not.

2.4.3 Object Movement

Additional movement controls are from the keyboard. These tend to move the object more slowly offering finer control than using the transform gizmo:
Key Movement
V and B Moves the object up and down.
G and F Rotates the selected object clockwise and anticlockwise.
N and C Moves the object along the terrain towards and away from the
camera.
J Snaps the object from its original height to the terrain height.

Hey all, so I have about 10 or so miles laid, including all of the trackage for Manville Yard, and about 2 miles of the Trenton Sub. Now I'm wondering how I can get the proper gradients and height. I'm using 1/3rd and 1/9th arc data for elevation, but it's not detailed to the point where I can just drop the tracks and they'll be at the proper height or grade. Any tips and tricks? Would the "J" key to drop the track to terrain height be of any use? I know of one grade crossing where the grade is 0 and the track is completely level but I don't know how high it should be. Is TS2014 in metric or standard? I know this is a lot of questions but I'm hoping to at least get this section under control until I move on.

So this thought came across my mind. How much is too much? I was thinking of how much I should actually lay in the route. I was thinking of doing Oak Island as the end point originally but as I think about it I was wondering if I should do the Chemical Coast Line and the extension to Croxton Yard in Jersey City. Any one have any thoughts on this or would it be too much?

Okay so I know I haven't updated you guys in a while, but here's the latest scoop.

I have track laid from Manville Yard to Oak Island yard most of it is just the main line only. I am working on adding sidings etc.
Manville Yard is complete (with the assets I have available to me)
I do need to work on laying all of the tracks in Oak Island before I continue East to Croxton (which will be the end of the line)
However, I have come to realize that I will need some help with some minor assets such as stations and other key details. Does anyone who is somewhat familiar with the line know of any stand-in assets I can use as placeholders or to represent stations such as Bound Brook, Union, Roselle Park, the CNJ station at Philipsburg and the Elm Street Bridge in Neshanic?
Just looking to get things as accurate as possible. Any ideas are welcome.

Hello All,

So I was running on the NS AND and saw how SMM Digital had all custom control points for each location. I was wondering how easy it would be to repaint the SMM Digital control points with control Points for my route. I have a long list of control points I would need boxes for going east to west: CP Pike, CP-Valley, CP-ALDENE, etc. I saw a texture file with all the names on the NS AND Control points, but was wondering if copying them and redirecting the files would mess things up. Anyone have any suggestions?
