I'm not sure why they would do that. I'm thinking if better physics makes it a little harder, that's a good thing. Can't picture them dumbing anything down to compensate. Push over scenarios aren't as fun.

I have noticed there is something going on also. I recently made a car with 36" wheels on one end and 28" on the other. Since I was just doing development I did not define the brakes in the blueprint and in the game the car appears to move on its own, at .2 mph toward the smaller wheelset. It'll roll till it bumps another car, but won't couple. Kinda defeats the idea of kicking cars...weird, huh?

No it doesnt bcause of law of inertia. your helicopter moves with earth. you need to actually propel yourself in the oppostie direction to acheive the earth moving under you affect, otherwise it will take you with it due to gravity.

Physics lesson for the day;)

LIGHTBULB MOMENT...

Could this oddity not be taken advantage of to create a working hump yard????

A couple nights ago MadMike was able to knock a SD9, so its possible. Someone will have to try.

Was thinking the same thing, might need to expand my WIP to find room for one.

80 cars coming down Cajon just before SB is very hard for me to keep control with train air and dynamics. I was running 5 SD40-2s, 3 on front, 2 on back. Something has changed but I cannot find a file that has.

I was kicking cars in the Altoona yard with Mikes consolidation. It actually works to kick them! They stop eventually, but not instantly.

Keep in mind. A hump yard is not just pushing cars down the hill. You have to have the ever changing switches, and the ground brake system. It's pretty complicated as far as I can see!

I would be pleasantly surprised if RSC would make a working retarder for us. We had a thread going on about all this a year ago. The asset would have to have a way to call the wagon's brake system and adjust them based on the mass of the wagon, the incline of the hump, and the distance it had to travel (lets not get into friction...).
It may be more trouble than its worth, and I think its been said already, how much fun can be had running a hump? A novelty most likely. Now, kick cars down sidings, or smaller yards every now and then could add some fun to a scenario.

Nevertheless it could be done... There was a time when it couldn't...

I was at DeButt's this weekend (the real one ) and watching them kick cars over the hump was a lot of fun. The yard in Railworks is set up for humping if it ever comes to the point where you can kick cars.

A hump yard in RW would be a lot of fun if you could also operate it in Multiplayer. One person in the loco, the other one operating the switches.
