Not a bad idea, but with a huge problem.
ReDem only allows 10 tiles around a marker. :D

The only two methods to fill it is to do it manually with the Editor or a lot easier with the T key method.

If you only have 2 data sets they can be combined in MicroDEM. Throw all the BIL data into one folder and use merge. Memory determines how much data MicroDEM can merge.

Did that on my Ma&Pa DEM to eliminate the one tile gap.

OK, that does not work then. !*hp*!

I'll try 10 and see how close it gets me.

Thanks for that info Harold, that is how I am going to try this then.

While that might work, it would give you a lot of area you don't need, and cause a lengthy loading delay, as well as making it hard to download if you want to share it.

Hi Guys,

I'm diving into this too....

Was able to get some Named and Series markers built and put into the route. One issue with that, my marker flags don't appear.

I was also able to get the tiles built from ReDem, but I have no idea what to do with them. My route didn't have a Terrain folder, so I put them in one I made as a subfolder to the Environment folder, but that appeared to do nothing.

What do I do to use the tiles from ReDem?

Thanks
Don

I don't have ReDem, but I think they go in YourRouteFolder>Terrain>Here...

Correct.

Holy crap. That actually worked.... BUT... the interesting thing is, to find out my 'route folder name' I had to use RW_Tools.
Here is my path: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Content\Routes\f2d7ab06-1c1d-4780-a0f4-b3b7b84badae

Now, where should I have seen that in documentation? It seems like this stuff is incredibly poorly documented. (Unless I'm missing something.)

Ok. More general question. I have the ReDem Tiles for my terrain elevation. I have RWDecal decals for laying track and scenery. What order is the best order to lay track? On flat terrain, then applying the elevation tiles and modifying the track? Or the other way around. Is there a magic function to have the track lay down onto the terrain? (I'm guessing no.)

Thanks for your help.

Don.

Do you have series markers, and how rugged is your terrain?

Hi Alex,

I may not have series markers. I made some for this first shot because I thought I needed them to generate the Terrain tiles, but I guess I don't need them. The terrain isn't terribly rugged, but there will be some significant hills on part of the route I'm planning.

When it comes to markers, would it be possible to use the markers that RWDecal creates (via Google KML file), or should I make separate markers for use by ReDem?

Thanks
Don

I think the ones by ReDem? You may have a lot if you use the ones from RWDecal.

If your path for a series markers follows the track closely, you can do something like this, by the way.

I always place a new line of single unnamed markers in Google Earth for ReDem. Save these markers in one folder as .kml. Convert it to .csv with RWTools and then load it into ReDem.

This method is in my opinion the best for your situation as you have no route that goes from one end to the other, but has more "branches" (right?). So I think it's very difficult to cover the routes with one single path.
I recommend you use sinlge markers and save them in one folder. So you don't have to worry where to start with the markers, just place them were you want, the order doesn't matter.
This worked very well for me. I successfully set up 4 routes with this method in the past. One route is my Feather River Project, Marias Pass (bnsfsubdivison), Glennwood Canyon (thecanadianrail) and a very secret project on which I work together with another talented guy.

Micael,

Am going to try that method. I have been using a series marker file saved in .gpx format. When I used ReDem to create the terrain tiles it only generated the top portion and bottom portions of the route, leaving a 40+ mile flat gap in the middle. My DEM download was two files and I processed them both with ReDEM.

I am reducing my tile range to 2 instead of 4 and am going to see if it makes a difference. Still two separate DEM downloads though.

I am also seeing a few zero byte files in my output folder. Strange.
