You didn't read my post properly. I said to download the dem's in GridFloat and to then convert them through Microdem and not through the batch file. Also. Do you intend to use ReDem to generate your terrain tiles, or do want to try to convert the dem into .hgt files and then import them manually in the game? Oh, okay, I'll try converting the files in Microdem. I have them downloaded in GridFloat already... so I'll just need to convert them in Microdem. I would like to use ReDEM to do the elevation if possible (that's why I bought the full copy) and I've used it in the past and really liked what it did. Are there any additional steps to using ReDEM? Or is it the ususal set the tiles up and let it do it's thing like normal?

Normally ReDem would require a single merged dem in order not generate gaps between the tiles. I'll write in some time another tutorial about ReDem and merging dem's but as for now, just save your dem's as .bil's and go ahead as usual with ReDem.

Great News! I was able to get the elevation working... now I have HUGE cliffs where my 1/9 arc data ends and there should be 1/3 arc data... one question... can I combine 1/3 and 1/9 into one BIL file from separate IMG's using Microdem? I don't want to have the huge cliffs but I also want to keep all of my 1/9 arc data without the 1/3 writing over it... (my route has to be a mix of the 2 because there is no 1/9 arc data available for part of the route...) any ideas?

As far as I know it's currently only possible in Arcgis. Check out youtube and google for "merging dem in arcgis" to find some helpful tutorials as I don't have the time yet to write one.

I have ArcGIS running and I was able to get the DEM on one map... now I'm having trouble combining them to a .BIL file (or any other format)... I know you have experience using ArcGIS, can you provide any pointers? I'm using version 10.1.

haha... will do Kevin, and yes I meant the floatation device... but the candy works too... :P... Man, I haven't had Lifesavers in forever come to think of it... haha...

Anywho, I got all of my DEM merged and I am currently (when I get time) working on getting my decals laid along the route. I hope once I get the decals laid I can start working on track work... I guess I should go in this order?

1. Decals
2. Track
3. Scenery
4. Miscellaneous

Does that work? I'm taking the model railroad approach. Any ideas on order?

Okay all I got the whole hang of things... now it's just trying to lay track accurately... i found that my DEM has a lot of inaccuracies and was wondering how you pro route builders work out the kinks in the DEM... I am using the Track Rules from Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh route book. It covers a lot of major lines including the Reading Line and Lehigh Line, as well as Conrail into Oak Island. I'm trying to also find assets that I can use as either stand in's or exact models of for bridges as well as stations. Key landmarks are the bridges going over the Lehigh out of Allentown Yard, The former Lackawanna station at Phillipsburgh, the Elm Street Bridge in Neshanic Station, and the Bridge going into Bayonne out of Oak Island... I am thinking of doing the route from the beginning of the Lehigh Line territory from CP-Burn on the Reading Line out to Croxton Yard with the branch lines out along the Chemical Coast line and the Perth Amboy Secondary. Any ideas as to make this easy... I'll be posting screenshots so you guys can see how I'm doing.

As always, any help you can provide me is welcomed. This will be a long process.
