My project has unfortunately dragged out to about 3 years due to a lack of commitment, and setbacks (such as building custom signals, and wanting a piece of custom rollingstock). It's only a 50km long branchline, with next to no towns. I am almost stuck in regards to the signals, and don't really want American/UK examples in the route.

I would thoroughly recommend limiting your project to a maximum of about 40kms, consisting of assets that are readily available and meet the requirements. The more you research, the easier it will be, and the less time it will take to get into a consistent pattern with creating it.

It's very easy to get that feeling that you're going to build a revolutionary project in next to no time, only to find that it will take up roughly 10 times what you initially estimated, and then you're back to the drawing board with all that time put to waste. We don't all just jump behind the wheel of a B double and drive 2000kms with no dramas, when we've never driven before. Computer games essentially follow the same formula. Take baby steps to begin with.

PS, I hope this post doesn't offend anybody.

I understand your time concerns (I've been working my route for 5 years). But even on the big routes with each passing mile (literally) you get better at things and the rhythm becomes more normal. Aside from hiccups, as long as you go linearly and work on things in chunks (a good fellow on here once said) you will find that it makes doing the route building part easier. Boy, can I vouch for that. So no matter what size route you have may it be 1 mile/1Km, or 1000 miles/1000Km (I know the math doesn't add up but you get it) as long as you're enjoying the process and having fun that's what we're here for. So I encourage you (and other's reading this) to enjoy it and make the route you want to have, not what other's want you to have. (Okay maybe a little what other's want *!!wink!!* )

Route Length

I had been working on a project of 125 miles route.
The terrain is very tough from Railways point of view because it have thick forest cover and difficult mountains.
One tunnel is of 3 kilometer. !*brav*!
Before Gauge Conversion it used to took 12 hours to travel from end to end. Now it takes 8 hours.
The line was Meter Gauge, 1000mm which had been upgraded to 1676mm some years ago.
Search Lumding Silchar Meter Gauge on Internet. !*cheers*!
