Today I finished Coxton Yard. I was going to show screenshots of the track work but Host Then Post seems to have been hacked. I have no place to upload the pictures at this time. I may start my own web page for the project.

Why don't you just direct post them here?

I didn't know I can do that. Let me look into that.

Entering the south end of the yard, the track crossed over the Lackawanna River. At this location was the Ox Tower. Campbell's Ledge looms above the yard. This mountain ledge was created from the last ice age glacier that carved out the mountain side. If you Google "Coxton Yard" it's a good bet that you will find many pictures taken for this location.

Here is a view from Campbell's Ledge. Even today it's a great overview location for hikers and rail fans alike. Back in the day Coxton Yard was a very busy place that had a fury of rail activity. Today, only a small portion of the yard is used. I've returned it to it's former glory.

Continuing north we enter into the yard. The over all yard is split into many smaller yards. In the center is the Ox Yard to the right is the 5 tracked WRY Receiving Yard East. At the far right is the beginning to the LV Austin Branch. This branch line served as a connection to the NYO&W railroad. To the left are the field tracks and the car shop tracks.

This picture shows the bulk of the yard. To the left is the 17 track hump yard. To the right is the Receiving Yard West and the Riverside Yard. I added a coal tower at the location of coal service area. That coal tower still stands today. Beyond that is the location of the 33 stall roundhouse which is not yet on the map.

In this screenshot you can see the entrance to the hump yard. I had a devil of a time getting these junction right. There is no evidence of this hump yard there today. But if you look closely at the area in Google Earth, you can still see the grade.

Here is a look at the track work close up. To the left is the hump yard which at this point is almost level with the rest of the yard. Straight ahead is the Riverside yard. To the right is the location of the stock pens.

In these last two pictures, This first one is a track level shot of the middle of the yard. Straight ahead would be the roundhouse. To the left is the start of the LV West Pittston Branch that crosses over the Susquehanna River. I plan on adding this branch line as a future update to the route...if there is enough interest in the route by that time.
Over to the right on the hill is the start of the hump yard. To the far left is the diesel service area.

This last picture is the far north end of the yard. There is a scale house located here. To the left is the bottom of the hump yard as in converges into the yard tracks.

Now it's time to start building the actual route. The first area to be done is the Weldon/Ransom area. Feel free to comment and ask question about this route.

I'm going to create it with a little bit of everything. I want to try to balance scenery and functionality as well as some historical facts. At the far north end of this route sits the Sayre Shops. This is were the Lehigh Valley service their rolling stock. That area is just as big (if not bigger then) Coxton Yard.

Another interesting thing that I'm planning on is the West Pittston Branch. While this branch line is small it serviced many industries including a few coal breaker. While the Snake Path portion of the route is being modeled in the late 50's/early 60's, The West Pittston Branch will be set in the 30's and 40's and show the details of the anthracite industry before it's decline.

Here is the latest screenshot...
Moving north from Coxton Yard is the fist small town, Ransom. Located in Ransom is the Shawnee Paper Company. This company had 2 paper plant and a warehouse located in Coxton Yard. The picture below is the future site of the Shawnee Paper Plant #2. If you look at the top of the picture you can see the mountain tip of Campbell's Ledge that looms above Coxton Yard which is about 2 miles away from this site.
This route should be a fairly scenic ride as it follows the twisting and turning Susquehanna River. The next area to build is the Wyoanna area. This area doesn't actually exist anymore but back in the day there was a sand and gravel quarry located there. I'm still researching the time period that the quarry was operating there.

Today I managed to get my first model into Railworks.
Here is a 1930's style Lehigh Valley Yard Flood Light.

I set up the screen shot with a little fog for atmosphere. *!!wink!!*
I'm planning on making a matching double sided light next.

Ok, now the yard lights are finished. I did a bit of tweaking on them. I tilted the spotlights down a bit more and I also adjusted the black/rust textures of the towers so they show a bit clearer. I made a single sided yard light and a double sided yard light.

I moved them into place in Coxton Yard. There is about 8 of them.

I'm ready to work on the next project now.

Unfortunately I'm kinda forced to use PRR rolling stock for my screenshot. Would anybody happen to know of any freeware LV content that I can use until I make my own?

I don't know of any freeware LV stock, but there is a payware pack on Tad.
