1. After you place that small tile of water, click on it again and you'll see the corners and sides "light up" with a "golden shadow". Click in one of those shadow areas and drag; the tile will enlarge to the size that you want.
2. Draw a ribbon of double-track (DT); beyond that draw a short ribbon of single-track (ST). Select the ST piece and move it to where it looks like it is centered a few paces beyond the two DT ends. With the piece selected, you can use your arrow keys to make fine "nudges" as needed. Now, with the Easement option turned off and the Snap to Track option turned on (both in the lower left flyout) draw a piece of track from the end of one of your DT tracks curving toward your ST. At about half the distance, click that ribbon to end it and start another ribbon which should snap to your ST. If not, you may have to shorten/lengthen the first ribbon you drew. Once that ribbon snaps to your ST, select and delete any overlap from the end of your ST.
Now, click on that second ribbon you just made and click copy or press Ctrl+C. Click Paste or press Ctrl+V and your should get a copy of that second curved ribbon; place it in a blank area. Turn it around 180 degrees. Using the Join Track tool, connect that ribbon to the end of your ST at the same point your original curved ribbon connects; a switch and frog should appear and you'll have an equal curve leading both left and right from the end of your ST.
Last, draw a ribbon from the end of the OTHER DT and let it "snap to" the newest curve you just added to your ST. Carefully select and delete any remaining overlaps and you should now have a smooth and even route from your ST onto either DT. Be careful not to "snap" your track into the middle of a switch or frog.
If necessary, select and move the entire junction as one piece as needed to allow connection to the rest of your route. Draw the connecting tracks FROM your ST/DT junction TO the continuing tracks of your route. I always use the "snap to track" option to connect any track that is not perfectly aligned. Just remember to find, select, and delete any overlap.
