Can I safely change this?

Unread postby 5292nate » Wed Feb 27, 2013 11:59 am

Hey guys. In the attached image, is my content\routes folder. The highlighted one is the one I want to change. Can I safely rename this to something I will remember? At least my own custom number pattern that I will remember. Can anybody explain to me why they are named the way they are?

Thanks

Yes, you should be able to change it to your own pattern.

BUT

You should to use 0-9 A-F only.

AND

You need to keep it unique as possible. I won't go into how GUIDs are generated, but to be safe (though its not 100% safe) I would only have the set of 12 digits at the end. Keep the rest intact.

I know that other people have renamed the folders to whatever they like, but RSC did the naming for a reason, and may enforce it more strictly at any time.

In that case, I may leave it for now just to be safe.

Nate why do you want to change it? To find it better? Make a text file with the name of the route like myroute.txt and add some text in side like myroute so it is not a zero byte file.

You don't need to change it. Windows already has a better solution called "shortcuts".

If you often need to open the same routes or scenario folders, do the following:
- create a new folder in a place easy to access (such as your desktop). Name it "Railworks shortcuts". Open this folder in a window.
- open your routes folder in a different window.
- select your route folder with the RIGHT mouse button. Keep it pressed and drag the folder to your new folder.
- release the right mouse button and select "Create shortcut here".
- rename your new shortcut as you wish.
- do the same with any folder you need a shortcut for (I have a few routes and scenarios, a few asset folders, the manuals folder, my download folder).
