Track speeds

Unread postby artimrj » Thu Aug 05, 2010 4:26 pm

Little confused here about track speeds. I have my own set of track rules. I copied the SanB to Bar set and renamed and editted them to make them my own. I add Tom Moyers switchstands to the rules. I then editted the speed limts I want my route to have. Everything looks good and the route still loads however, when I am laying track and the test it they do not have the speeds I intended. I set up a default of 70 primary and 55 secondary. I assumed this was the Passenger/Freight speeds. It shows 55 for my freight scenario just fine on the mainline track. I set up yards for 30/20 PAX/Freight. But when I lay a yard track and test it I still have the 55mph speed.

While struggling through this I somehow go a fly out to appear showing me the specs of the track. The speeds and type are listed in there with a few other things. So I changed the speed limits and chose yard type and layed more track then tested it and the speed limit was 20 mph like it should be for the yard designation. So I started laying more track and noticed that the speed limits number were back to the 70/55, so I changed them again and again and again. It appears as soon as you deselect the track the numbers revert back to their default of 70/55.

So I looked into the other track rules in the SanB to Bars set and see that in the rules for yard track the default speeds are actually yard speeds. So I can lay yard track with the right speeds but now I am using a different Rule file. I see in the WIki it suggests now changing the track rule unless you are doing a seperate entity of tracks for an unconnected line.

Now if the San B to Bars set of rules in 5 different track rules and they were used to make the San Bar route why is it that you can;t use multiple track rules? And is there a way to stop the numbers from changing when you deselect the track other than having another track rule? Or is it that I have no choice and have to change the nubers each time I want to lay the yard track?

Also, while on the subject; Is there a way to change speed limits on track already laid? I have one section that has a -1.07267 speed limit !**conf**! and even if the train is stopped, it's in violation. I've tried to relay the section, with the correct values selected, and it just reverts to the negative value.

Hi MadMike,

In the route editor, have you tried hitting the spacebar to see the track properties? If not, then try it. I can't remember how many times you have to hit the spacebar to get to the speed properties (each time you hit it, you get a different property that you can edit), but I think it's 4 or 5 times. If you hover your mouse cursor over the colored ribbon, you will get a boxe and it will tell you what the values are and what property you are editing.

Hope this helps,
Christian

Yes there is. I got this help from another route maker. Click the track icon. Then the click the select button, (looks like a broken square). Then click onthe track you want to change and you get a gizmo. You push the end of the gizmo out onto your track/tracks. You then get the flyout on the right side of the screen where you can change the track speeds and type and a few other things. It is the same flyout that appears then when you are laying track. So if you reselect the track you can edit it in the flyout. You can push the gizmo end a long way and do multiple tracks. If a section of tracks comes up blank in the flyout, it is because there are more than 1 speed limit set. But when you change it, they all get your new speed limits.

Thank you! That works beautifully. Now my sort area and the passenger loading track are the right speed limit.
