ScaleRail

Unread postby SMMDigital » Sun Jul 11, 2010 7:58 am

What is the best procedure for replacing already lain track with ScaleRail? I've got 168 miles of mainline, branchline, and two major yards that I want to replace, preferalbly without having to relay all of it.

I'm thinking replacing the Kuju rail references with Scalerail ones in the Tracks.bin and TrackRules files should do the trick?

That might work, but remember ScaleRail has different heights than the default track, so it may appear sunken in. That's easier to take care of than re-laying the whole network though.

Well, I was able to do it, although it took a few hours using Notepad++ (there is another program that would have done the same thing much faster, but it ain't free! !*not-ok*! ). I switched all track and switch stands over to ScaleRail, and it looks awesome! It's very close to what Norfolk Southern uses on the actual prototype. ScaleRail gets my vote for Railworks Add-on of the Year!

Awesome **!!bow!!** I've done a load of ScaleRail "replacements" in MSTS, and wondered if this could be accomplished (though, never found enough time to delve into the technicalities--the where and what within the XML that needs to be found and replaced). Needless to say, I agree that ScaleRail adds a whole new dimension to the sim, visually and operationally.

Great work !*YAAA*!

How do you install ScaleRail to RW?

Um, you just install it? I'm not sure what you're asking.

Actually, it's quite easy. All you have to mess with is the tracks.bin file. You use Serz to convert it to XML, then replace the references to the tracks and switchstands in the file. In my case, there were close to 5,000 references, and the signals complicated things a bit. Track height before and after Scale-Rails was not an issue - I built the mainline 3 feet off the ground to begin with, as i've never seen railroad tracks on a main that sat flat on the ground (FUTURE RAILROAD SIMULATOR DEVELOPERS PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THAT FACT!).

It's a must-do conversion! ScaleRail will probably be my first purchased add-on for RW.
