Recreating a Major River

Unread postby gurugordon » Wed May 02, 2012 9:20 am

I've started work on a route in the Susquehanna valley in PA. My problem is with the river and finding a realistic way to model it. The water tiles just don't seem to cut it - they are too transparent for a start. Is there a recommended texture to paint below them to enhance their effect? I can't find any helpful information online. The river varies in width from over 1 mile to under 1/2 mile. There are stretches where it is deeper and slow moving, and others where it is shallower and moving more quickly. Some stretches contain many large rocks and other obstructions, which in turn affect the flow pattern, producing much turbulence in their wake. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can adjust the quality of the water decal. There should be setting for it on the right fly out.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I'm also looking at ways to use lofts to get the effects I am after.

In the fly-out, play around with depth and colour. Most of my rivers are set of a depth of only 1 meter (down from the default 25) and are a dark green which comes up just like the real one.

Thanks for the advise. I was not previously aware of the existence of the adjustments for water quality. I have gone for a green tile color and reduced murk depth to 1m and that seems to have done the trick. I will post some pictures later.
