How To Intice someone into a route build

Unread postby reeveshd » Fri Mar 30, 2012 9:45 pm

I was just wondering what some one would ask for a price for a route to be developed.

I have been wanting a route that has a 25 or 50 mile radius of Terre Haute, In. I have wanted a route like that since MSTS

I have tried coutless times to learn the editors and router builders over there years.

I would be courious if some one would want paid for development cost, then when done, payware the route.

Thoughts anyone

If you could assemble research data (pictures, maps, and so forth) to offer someone to develop a route, that would be a big help. If you could learn to use Google Earth to lay out the marker data that would be even better. There are all kinds of ways you can help a potential developer without having to design the route yourself.

I think a lot of the developers (or wannabe developers) would be willing to do it just for the asking, but you'd have to spark their interest and there would probably be a lengthy wait time since they do it "because they want to".

I have 19 months and approx. 2,000 hours in my route. At a buck an hour thats 2 grand and a long wait. You would have a lot more fun doing it yourself. You have a forum here to get info when your stuck, so why not just dig in and do it yourself and make it a freeware route? To be a payware route you would need to be able to make all your own scenery, you need 3D modeling software and knowledge to use it. Tons of freeware scenery objects out there. Then if you make a payware route, it has to be really good or it wont sell and then you have to deal with the public which gets really picky and sometimes down right mean when they pay for stuff.

And no, I do not want to do it. I already started another freeware route. I don't want the pressure of making a payware route and I would like to keep the community alive with a freeware one.

I agree with the above. There are people here who would do it for free. This is a hobby and route creation is as much a part of the fun as driving, more fun in my opinion... so paying someone to build a route is almost like paying someone to drive a simulated train around.

We just had a $640-million dollar lottery drawing here in the U.S. Three tickets got the right numbers, including one in my state. They will each get $213-million dollars.

Alas, I was not the one with the winning ticket in Illinois, so I will not be able to carry out my plan to pay everyone for their simulated rail driving. *!greengrin!*

artmrj has it 100% right.

Indiana's flat, ain't it? You don't even have to worry about the terrain. Just play around with laying track for a while, then start your route. Then play around with scenicing, place a house or two, some clutter. Paint some grass. Dig a river. It takes time, but it's really easy.

You mean what are you doing right? The answer is everything. Maybe you could seek employment as an advisor to Paul Jackson.

Not quite. Dont forget that Uncle Sam gets 38-45% of that right off the top, not to mention the thousands of others who got anywhere from a $2 to $2,000,000 share of the pot. Myself, I got $7. Just enough play in for the next time!

The $213 million per winning ticket is NOT shared with any of the lower level winners--each of the three is GUARANTEED at least $213-million--before taxes and as annual payments over 26-years. All the other prizes are separate.

So yes, each winning ticket gets $213-million IF they take the 26-year payout. if they choose that, they will only pay taxes when they get a check each year, not taxes on the whole amount at the start, which they would have to do if they took a lump sum. Also if they take a lump sum they will get just 65% of the $213-million. OTOH, if they have any investing sense they can do a lot better over 26 years than taking the MegaBall payout over that time period.

Not that I'll never win something big like that. And evenif you didn't do charitable giving (which you should :) you'd still see about $125-million after taxes, and I could squeeze by on that. :) That's a lot of DLC!
