Unread postby arlingtontxrailfan » Thu Jun 20, 2019 7:24 pm

Started a new fictional railfan route a couple days ago. Here is the progress I've made so far. Still a lot of work to do on the yard, and lots of scenery, grade crossings, and signals need to be installed. Also included in this post is a list of the required assets:

Payware:
-Horseshoe Curve
-The Racetrack
-Pacific Surfliner
-Miami To West Palm Beach
-Norfolk Southern Coal District
-Northeast Corridor: New York To Philadelphia
-Northeast Corridor: New York To New Haven
-US Loco & Assets Pack
-Raton Pass
-Stevens Pass
-Soldier Summit
-Norfolk Southern N-Line
-Sherman Hill

Freeware:
- RCAP
-ScaleRail ATSF
-ScaleRail SP
-ScaleRail Default
-ScaleRoad
-SMMDigital Assets

I'm sure you can reduce that assets list. That's WAY too many.

I second that.

It's going to be to least a 40-50 mile route so I think it's reasonable

These routes mostly (if not always) carry the exact same assets when it comes to route building. The only difference is that they are re branded for their perspective route. The things I'm talking about are pretty much limited to houses, scenery, and commercial buildings. Some of em actually date back as far as the OG Cajon Pass. In essence, you could actually half that list and it would save you time and use less assets!

You've got to be joking. The New York Division from Minerman is 100+ miles and literally requires 4 things. !*not-ok*!

The MRL is over a hundred miles scenery finished and only uses assets from one pay route. Everything else is free stuff.

Minerman here - 100+ miles and just 3 DLC and 2 asset packs. What I am about to say maybe helpful. I remembered when I started my route and reading about people having serious (and legitimate ) concerns about the amount DLC. If you really end up needing that many asset packs and can justify it. People will try to understand that. I think more packs cause end user issues in general, in my opinion.

What I did and this is my recommendation: Uncheck EVERYTHING except for the track and terrain DLC. This means starting with ONE. Then, and you probably know what is the next DLC you need, add in that asset pack as you start your scenery. Remember you can always ADD assets, getting rid of assets is a pain. Also, it is very difficult to determine what assets you are using from what DLC when you have more than 5.

The takeway: Start with the MINIMUM amount of DLC and only add what you absolutely must have. KEY: Uncheck ALL assets in editor you are not using!

Good luck to you and your project!

Using more DLC assets increases the risk of players having problems and needing support for something you can't control.
Such as players from outside USA not having access to some DLC.
