Still Working on This, but Learning Route Design

Unread postby RailWanderer » Wed Jan 25, 2017 4:48 pm

Hi all,

I recently went through a hard drive crash and lost a lot of my data, or I thought so, in the incident. But, I have pretty much recovered 95% of the route. The route is the Neuville Williamsburg Railroad Company, which I have been working on since 2014.

The thing I wanted to say is organization is the key to good route design, so keep your files organized and save several backup copies of the Assets, the Content, and the Source folders. Although I thought I had lost everything in the drive crash, my saving of these folders saved me a lot of work in rebuilding. I have all my work saved on a separate drive, but it wasn't organized to the point of recognizing all the saved data. I eventually recovered all the data for the route even though it wasn't organized, thus the mentioning of keeping things organized and save often than you think you should, especially when working within the Editor.

The website for my route isn't all that complete, but it does show the route as it was, and is, before the drive crash.

If you need some help with the buildings I can build some custom assets if needed, and I'll definitely be doing some new vehicles.

I'll do this for the route.

And some progress on the building, however I probably won't paint the St Lois in the middle however.

Looks great Jon, I know I could find a good place for it as there area still several towns that need built. I was last night working on a concrete arch bridge for a certain span. I found after the recovery that many of the old scenery objects needed their detail level boosted a bit so one could at least see the scenery, not everything just a few.
