how to make location markers, not series markers?

how to make location markers, not series markers?

Unread postby gwgardner » Thu Nov 10, 2016 1:54 pm

I have used RWTools to make location markers, to no avail with my new route.

Does anyone know how to make location markers WITHIN the Train Simulator Editor, without using RWTools?

I'm not referring to series markers, for laying track. I'm referring to the 'jump to' markers.

All I could figure out was to make a manual .csv file, containing GPS coords and descriptions, then pass it through the blueprint editor to create a .dcsv file. No idea how to create the assciated .bin file manually, which points to the .dcsv file. Thank goodness for RWTools.

RW Tools is the best way to do it. You need to have Railworks set up to run in a window so you can also have RWTools on the screen. In RWTools go to Route Building Tools, then Marker Files and from there Set Markers from World Editor. A window opens for you to pick your route. Then once your route is hilited in the list you add the lat and lon and give the marker a name and click Add to List. Keep doing it until you have them all or get tired. Then save the list. It will go in your Assets/(your assets folder)/Route Marker. A bin and dscv file will be created.

If you need more added later on, do it all again and a second file will be created in the Route Markers folder, I cut and paste the date from the new dscv file to the bottom of the old one.

To get the lon and lats you have to fly around the route, pull the upper pull down and look see what the lats and lons are. Copy and paste them in to RW tools.

The DSCV file can be edited with Notepad.

Your location markers will named the same as your route. RW Tools takes care of that also.

Thanks for the step by step procedure, which I have followed to the letter. Still no markers. I've finally decided, after three days of fiddling with it, that it's not that important - players can't use the markers, and if anyone did want to make a scenario for my route I'll try to document everything.

Bob, this is not clear for me. What is this assets folder? How is it linked to the route?

I believe it is assets/<provider>/<product>/RouteMarkers that Bob is referring to.

That's it. Where all the pertinent stuff for the route is. Environment, Preload, Railnetwork, Route Markers, TemplateRoutes, Timeofday.
